Gast ELdOra CITy COUNCIL SPECIaL COUNCIL MEETINg – CONdENSEd aPrIL 25, 2019 -- 6:00 PM Eldora City Council met in Special Session with Mayor David Dunn pre- siding. Council members present were Aaron Budweg, Greg Priske, Melody Hoy, Robert John and Blake Jones. Also, present were Chandra Kyte, City Attorney Marty Petersen and citizens. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance. Connie Jeske and Judy Spree from Greenbelt Home Care were at the meet- ing to answer questions on the termina- tion of Julie Towne. The City is still a 25% owner in Greenbelt Home Care until the agreement is ended. Connie said the meetings were in closed session and the only thing she could say was there were two closed sessions. The first one she was suspended with pay and the second meeting she was let go. Julie was over- seeing the billing, payroll and other as- pect of the business and would check and follow up with patients when needed. Mayor Dunn asked to go into Closed Session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(c) Threat of Litigation. Council member Jones so moved, seconded by Priske. Roll call vote: “ayes” Budweg, Priske, Jones, John and Hoy; “nays”: none; ab- sent: none. Motion carried. Closed Ses- sion opened at 6:30 pm. Mayor Dunn asked for a motion to open the Closed Session. The first weekend of May (3-5) marks the official launch of the sum- mer camping season with Iowa State Parks’ annual Camping Kickoff celebration. “Year of theVolunteer” is the focus of this year’s Camping Kickoff celebration as the Iowa Department of Natural Resourc- Official launch of camping season es (DNR) anticipates its 100th anniversary in 2020. “We greatly appreciate our parks volunteers’ support and assistance as we prepare for our centennial anniversary next year,” said Todd Coffelt, chief of State Parks Bureau for the Iowa DNR. “Camping Kickoff is our way of showing appre- ciation for our campers, and this year’s events focus on volun- teerism and activities the entire family can enjoy.” More than 30 state parks will host volunteer events and spe- cial activities the weekend of May 3-5, including park clean- ups, tree planting, fun run, kay- aking clinics and more. A list of parks and their programs is available online at ww.iowadnr. gov/campingkickoff. Pine Lake State Park on the east edge of Eldora will have a Tree Planting Volunteer Event Saturday, May 4 starting at 1 p.m. Help park staff with tree planting. Meet at the camp- ground gazebo. Camping Kickoff weekend campers will also receive a free issue of the Iowa DNR’s Iowa Outdoors magazine. Iowa has more than 4,700 state park campsites, 75 per- cent of which may be reserved in advance. A link to the reser- vation site is available off the State Parks webpage at www. iowadnr.gov/stateparks. “Iowa state parks are beloved overnight destinations for many people.” Says Coffelt. “We of- fer campsites that appeal to a board range of campers, from the more rustic hike-in sites to those with all the popular ame- nities.” If camping isn’t your style, these are 93 cabins available to rent across 19 state parks, re- minds Coffelt. In the off season, from Labor Day to Memorial Day, cabins can be rented for a two-night minimum stay. Dur- ing the peak of summer, most cabins require a seven-day min- imum visit.
