DIRECTOR ’S NOTES

Coming to the close of this school year, I am once again thankful to all students but most of all the seniors who have chosen Drama Club as an activity at WFB. Every year the seniors are a special group who lead us, and the class of 2012 is as talented a group as we have ever had. This concludes my 13th year at Bay. It also marks my 30th year of teaching. Though the past year has seen turbulence, I still find working with high school students the most rewarding career I could have ever pursued. I hope quality people will continue to choose this profession, and the community will continue to value the dramatic arts in our schools.

I often state that what we do here is educational theatre not professional theatre. We are concerned with the process more than the product. We choose shows that are uniquely challenging to our students, not shows that will bring in the largest crowd. However, Harvey is a classic we are sure you will enjoy, and we thank you, our audience, for attending. If not for you, we would not have that very important step in our process – a finished show with a receptive audience. With that in mind, we welcome you to our Spring production of Harvey.

The play premiered on November 1, 1944 at the 48th Street Theatre on Broad-way where it was staged for 1,775 performances before closing on January 15, 1949. The playwrite Mary Chase received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the work in 1945.

The play tonight will have two ten-minute intermissions. Enjoy!

Katie Bentley (Veta Louise Simmons, ’12) is happy to be a part of Harvey. Four years of WFB Theatre have blessed Katie with crazy roles such as Reno Sweeney and Mrs. Meers; both equally endearing and totally insane. She is pleased to add Veta to that list. Katie will be studying at Lawrence University next year enjoying the grassy fields by the Fox River. Much love to Brigid, Coleman, and Will Shakes. Mary Chase 2016.

Braden Bjella (Lyman Sanderson, M. D., ’13) is insanely excited to be portraying the part of Dr. Sanderson. You may have seen Braden as Septimus in Arcadia, Jimmy Smith in Thoroughly Modern Millie, as well as many other characters over his past three years at Bay. Braden would like to thank everyone who has helped him through the process, including his family, his friends, and a wonderful cast. In the words of Ron Burgandy, “You stay classy, Whitefish Bay.”

Harrison Brent Gabel (Judge Omar Gaffney, ’15) is organically enthused to be living in the skin of a 70-year-old judge. By appearing in Harvey, he is going against his depressing, melancholic character persona. He would like to thank all the wonderful people who have helped him achieve success in life, and his parents.

Kiaran Hartnett (Ruth Kelly R.N., ’14) is really, really, REALLY, happy to be a part of the wonderful production of Harvey. You may have previously seen her on the Whitefish Bay stage as a Priscilla Girl in Thoroughly Modern Millie or Amelia Smith in Why Did God Make Sparrows. She would like to thank her family for their support and her fellow cast and crew members for being a true delight. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Meredith Head (Betty Chumley, ’13) is elated to be cast in Whitefish Bay High School’s production of Harvey. If she were to remove most of her clothes, you may recognize her as a Hot Box dancer, Chastity the Angel, or Alice the Priscilla girl from her musical career. She has also played Gayle in Almost, Maine, Cindy Boyle in the student production Why Did God Make Sparrows?, and pivotal roles in Much Ado About Nothing and The Boor. Although you might not see it from Mrs. Chumley’s posh demeanor, Meredith is really quite a goon. She would love to extend her warm thanks to Mr. Coleman, who has the ability to both brighten and strengthen her day; the crew, for their endless hard work and patience; and the cast, without whom she would be lonely and sad. Meredith would especially like to extend her love to Katie and Brigid: their strength and humor have been a privilege to experience. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Matt Klein (Duane Wilson, ’12) is ridiculously thrilled to be a part of Harvey. He is excited to take on a personality so different from his own. Matt’s favorite

productions of the past include Arcadia and Almost, Maine. This is Matt’s seventh production at WFBHS and wishes it wasn’t his last. Next year, Matt will be studying film production at Columbia College in Chicago. Matt would like to thank everyone who has helped him in theatre and especially Mr. Coleman who has inspired him to focus on the arts.

Brigid McBride (Myrtle Mae Simmons, ’13) is very excited to take part in Harvey. You may have seen her as the great and terrifying Flannery in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and she looks forward to one more year of Whitefish Bay Theatre. A big thanks to Coleman, the cast, crew, Katie, and the ever-talented Mary Chase.

Jen Pereles (Props, ‘12) has enjoyed working on stage crew all through out her high school career. Jen has found a special passion for working with props and was very happy to be given the opportunity for what is, sadly, the last time. Jen will be attending Purdue University in the fall majoring in Wildlife Sciences. Lastyl, Jen wants to thank her family for their never ending patience and Mr. Coleman for teaching her how to be a better leader and take responsibility even if things get difficult, he has truly made a haven out of stage crew for her.

Kelsey Pfeifer (Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet, ‘12) is over the moon to be playing one last hardcore lady. You may have seen her in Thoroughly Modern Millie as The Pearl Lady and Dorothy Parker, or in Arcadia as Lady Croom. Next year, she will be traveling to the land of corn fields and agriculture (it’s called Iowa) to study Electronic Media Communications of Radio and Television at Drake University. She would like to thank her family, the Williams, and the rest of the hysterical cast for always being there.

Patrick Pfeifer (Crew, ‘12) is ecstatic to be apart of this fine production. As Drama Club President he is quite proud of this final spring play. He would like to thank Mr. Coleman for his astounding mentor ship and directing skills. Patrick will be attending Cornish college of the Arts next year majoring in a BFA Performance Production

Rolands Lauzums (Elwood P. Dowd, ’12) is moderately satisfied to be in this wonderful show. You may have seen him foraging through trashcans…. Oh! In shows? He appeared on this stage in his first show as Ferrallion in A Flea in her Ear and hopes to make his last show spectacular. He thanks actor Pauly Shore for his inspiration.

Monica Kramer (Lights, ’14) is overjoyed to participate in her seventh show at WFBHS. She would like to thank Mr. Coleman for supporting her for the last two years, and to Ms. Kind-Keppel and Ms. Grossmayer for letting her be so involved in the musical. Special thanks go to her mother, for baking countless meals for the theater department; her brothers, for their inspiration and support; her father, for always providing humor; and for her friends, for being awesome!

Stefan Schallack (E. J. Lofgren, ’15) is thrilled to have been cast in Harvey. He decided to try out after landing a role in the chorus of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Though he is relatively new to theatre, he has a great attitude and has always loved to be on stage. He thanks his family for always supporting him in his interest in theatre and thanks the theatre family for helping and encouraging him and being great friends throughout his freshman year.

Ross Smith (Stage Manager, ’12) is excited to Stage Manage his last play at Whitefish Bay High School. He will dearly miss the theatre. When he moved here from Scotland he was a sophomore who didn’t know a soul. Now he has memories to take home to his cattle ranch. He would like to thank John Coleman for the opportunity to crew the past three years and manage the last three shows.

Zev Woskoff ( William R. Chumley M.D., ’14) is thoroughly blown out of the water and right into space at the idea of masquerading as the German psychiatrist, Dr. Chumley. Though he’s only a freshman, Zev has previously performed in such productions as Seussical the Musical, A Year with Frog and Toad, and, just recently, earned a starring role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. He wishes to thank his fantastic director Mr. Coleman for mentoring him and helping him hone his German accent during smashing, peachy, and downright groovy rehearsals. Zev would just like to add that if you have any complaints about the show, feel free to take them up with Harvey.

Grace Armstrong (House Manager, ’14) is ecstatic to take part in her 8th show here at WFBHS. You may remember her in Once on this Island (she was 10) or in the latest show, Thoroughly Modern Millie. She would like to thank her sisters and family for the love and support and give special thanks to Mr. Coleman for tolerating her sass.
