HAVE A LOVELY AUTUMN
2
Autumn is already well established, regular activities have resumed and projects are not lacking. Everyone is well settled and the CAB is reaping what it has sowed.
In June, an invitation was extended to the public to register new volunteers for the end-of-life support service. Nearly 15 people have shown interest in this project and 36 hours of specialized training has already begun.
Several working committees are in place to plan, prepare, organize and carry out CAB activities and service offerings.
To carry out accompaniment-transport activities, delivery of Meals on Wheels and frozen meals, friendship visits, support for individuals and organizations in their volunteer activities, the CAB is always looking for volunteers and new sources of funding.
Some programs are not renewed and we must make requests to have the financial resources necessary to meet the needs of the community and support our volunteers.
The challenge remains to meet the needs, even with fewer human resources, without exhausting staff and volunteers.
Dear volunteers, I thank you for your dedication, your generosity, the support you bring to CAB every day and your enthusiasm for doing so. YOUR PRESENCE is the essential source of OUR ACTION. Thank you for your cooperation, your smile is our energy at all times.
Dear employees, your commitment in providing quality services to the community and in supporting community organizations is evident in your everyday actions. I thank you for your availability, your attention, your professionalism, but especially for your cooperation. I wish you all a good autumn as I look forward to seeing you at one of our activities.
Roseline Adams
Hello everyone, Already fall. It's amazing how time flies. This summer, we were fortunate to be able to benefit from the federal government's Canada Summer Jobs program. Thanks to Ashley Boulet who joined us for 8 weeks and did a great job.
Also, since August 27, we can count on the presence of a trainee in Social Work Techniques. Élyse Drapeau is in the office from Monday to Wednesday, until November 28th.
I take this opportunity to invite you to follow us on our Facebook page. We publish regular information on topics that affect us all, our activities, the services and needs of volunteer recruitment, as well as the associative life of our Center.
I also invite our volunteer members and organizations, as well as the people who receive our services, to send us their comments and suggestions, always with a view to improving our practices and responding appropriately to your needs. Do not hesitate to call us or to visit us.
In closing, to the entire staff team, board members, valued partners and collaborators, and to all those who take the time to read our newsletter, I wish you a good end of autumn, filled with rewarding moments and stimulating challenges. Keep doing good around you, it's so rewarding.

On September 14th, there was the BBQ for September. On this beautiful sunny day, we had the pleasure of
welcoming nearly 40 volunteers for a BBQ lunch. The entire team of the Center thanks its volunteers who
improve the quality of life of seniors in our community by getting involved in offering our various services. In
addition, we would like to thank the volunteers and the sponsors who have allowed us to hold this wonderful
recognition activity. Wishing a good autumn season to all!
GOOD JAM TO SUPPORT THE 30th CENTRAIDE FINANCING CAMPAIGN This year marks the 30th public campaign of Gaspésie Îles-de-la-Madeleine United Way. The organizations funded in the Côte-de-Gaspé RCM offer you the opportunity to support the United Way and its mission, by buying a jar of strawberry jam from the Conserverie de la Baie. A purely Gaspesian product. By buying a jar of jam at a cost of $ 10, you are making a difference in the lives of a neighbor, a friend or even a parent. By supporting United Way, donors are helping people get off the streets, making children less vulnerable to violence, preventing suicides, supporting people with disabilities, accompanying seniors, and helping many others who really need our support. Together we can help keep the hope of the thousands of people who struggle daily with the harmful effects of poverty. Strawberry jams in 375 ml format are on sale now from the following organizations: • The Volunteer Center Le Hauban inc. (418 368-6634) • Gaspésie-Les Îles Space (418 368-2015) • The Resourcing, Reintegration and Intervention Center (CRRI) (418 368-1655) • The Home Blanche-Goulet (418 368-4700) • The Volunteer Center Les Hauts-Bois (418 784-2476) • The Volunteer Center La Grande Corvée (418 393-2689)
Thanks to all who will make a success of this activity.
It should be noted that the United Way is reaffirming its promise to redistribute the donations raised in a RCM within the same RCM.
Hurry and contact us to reserve your jar of jam!

FROM ÉLYSE DRAPEAU
Dear volunteers, dear beneficiaries, My name is Élyse Drapeau, I am 20 years old and I am in my last year as a student in Social Work Techniques at CEGEP de Gaspé. I am an intern at the Le Hauban Volunteer Center Inc., from Monday to Wednesday. I will be in the office until November 28, 2018. My tasks are mainly to make calls for the escort service, to manage service requests, to update the files of the beneficiaries. I also had the pleasure of contributing to Gens Barque on October 26th. I am happy to be part of this great team. Do not hesitate to contact me, it will be a great pleasure to talk to you.

RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT OF VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer screening
Last August, we learned that the Sûreté du Québec was putting an end to the screening agreement
that was signed in 2015, which allowed us to have a free criminal record check of volunteers involved
with vulnerable people. This is a provincial decision. The Federation of Volunteer Centers of Quebec
(FCABQ) supports its members in this matter. This will also be the subject of the next meeting of the
CAB meetings to be held in Quebec City on November 14th. Our director will participate. To be
continued …
Recruitment of volunteers The Volunteer Center Le Hauban recruits volunteers throughout the year.
During the summer, people have less availability, which is quite normal and
understandable. Autumn having arrived, the visitors are gone and the
routine has returned to normal. At present, there is a great need for
medical escort services for seniors, particularly in the Rivière-au-Renard
and Petit-Cap areas. It is sometimes very unfortunate to be faced with not
being able to provide service to people in these sectors because of the lack
of volunteers. You probably know at least one person in your entourage
who likes contact with seniors, who is concerned about supporting them
to help maintain them at home, and who has a little time to offer. Thank
you for mentioning it to others!
La Guignolée, headed by Accueil Blanche-Goulet for a second year, is looking for volunteers to go door-to-door on Sunday, December 2, to raise money donations. If you wish to get involved for this good cause, you must contact Yannick at 418 368-4877.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS INFORM YOU
• In a regular meeting on October 15th, we regretfully accepted the resignation of Mrs Claire Synnott from her position as director. The latter, however, remains an active volunteer for the activities of the Center. Thank you, Mrs Synnott, for your investment in recent years. At this same meeting, we accepted the candidacy of Mrs Cécile Joncas, who will continue this mandate as administrator, until June 2019. She will be eligible for another three-year term. Welcome Ms. Joncas and thank you for your involvement and your feeling of belonging to the CAB!
• In recent months, a funding committee has been set up. The purpose of their work is to identify new sources of funding. We need to develop a plan and strategy to increase our revenues, given the different programs that have not been renewed in recent years and the fact that our current grants are not enough to carry out our mission comfortably. As an autonomous community organization, it is our responsibility to organize various self-financing activities, in order to improve the grants received from our main funders. A solicitation by letter to various companies and authorities allowed us to raise up to now the sum of $ 3 895. This money will be used, among other things, to renew obsolete computer equipment. We also wish to fill the position of personnel support worker left vacant since last August, due to the lack of funding. Employees invest generously in this extra work, but we must remember not to exhaust our precious resources. The next steps will be to address different foundations that can support community organizations. If you have ideas for fundraising activities, do not hesitate to let us know
The contribution of volunteers is invaluable for the Center. Every day, we witness the actions of those
kind-hearted people who give meaning to the lives of those in need. For us, it is essential to recognize
and value volunteer action. One of the means chosen to meet this objective is the organization of
recognition activities for our volunteer members. Among other things, we do so to mark the
beginning of activities in September, on the occasion of International Volunteer Day in December
and April, during National Volunteer Week. These activities are often made possible thanks to the
financial support of the municipal councilors of the City of Gaspé and the support program for
volunteer action from our MP, without whom we could not thank our volunteers. If you have ideas
for recognition activities that might be interesting, we invite you to let us know. All new ideas are
welcome.
On December 5th, to celebrate International Volunteer Day and the holiday season, member volunteers will be invited to a traditional Christmas dinner, in the FADOQ Club room Le Croissant d'Or in Gaspé. Official invitations will be sent in the next few weeks.
We are always attentive to the needs of
our members and the people who receive
our services. Do not hesitate to contact us!
