The members of the Friends of the Hamilton North Public Library compiledrecipes and are selling a Centennial Cookbook in honor of the 100th anniversary ofthe Atlanta Library branch The Atlanta building was built in 1916 and is anoriginal Carnegie library The state of Indiana benefited greatly from AndrewCarnegiersquos philanthropy Indiana constructed 164 Carnegie libraries more than anyother state

The cost of the cookbook is $1200 and can be purchased at the Cicero or Atlantabranches

about heading to a churchRETREAT You know where youget away from all the stress of thereal world and relax Heres the restof the story

When my friend Patrice and Iarrived we checked out the itineraryWe had options

Yes that is BC Before Coffee The alarm went offat 600 am Why does a Retreat have to start so earlyWhy didnt we sign up for the option of sleepingPatrice and I left the toasty warm room and hiked downthe hill to the Conference Building The air was briskThe sun was still sleeping

We began with scripture and prayer Candleswere lit throughout the darkened room THEN theworkout began

We were taught to focus on our breathing We werereminded to soften our shoulders We were told to relaxand feel the tension release This was a lot to ask beforedawn and before coffee I was determined to enjoyYogaeven if it hurt me

I wish we could have signed up for a Yogavocabulary class I understood Rag Doll Childs Poseand Cat-Cow Thenit got difficult

The Yoga instructor really needed toknow that she was working with a womanwho as a child was challenged by thehokey-pokey

I struggled a bit with relaxing andbreathing and moving and focusing all atthe same time But I kept going Patrice hadbeen training for a half marathon and shemoved like a graceful gazelle only I dontthink thats a Yoga pose She was great as akid doing the hokey-pokey

Fast forward a couple of weeks and Ifind myself in a Yoga class with myseventeen year old granddaughter AlecksaShe had never been to a Yoga class Ithought she might like it I looked over ather She looked like a willow tree as shegracefully balanced on one leg with her armsslowing bending backwards She was a 98pound 410 Warrior She planked like a ragdoll She was like a perfect AuntieAnnes pretzel as she maneuvered fromTriangle into Downward-Facing DogThankfully she did not inherit hergrandmas lack of grace and coordination

What I have learned in all of this is thatyou can teach a grandma new tricks Youcan lead a grandma to Yoga class and makeher enjoy it Your tree may not be gracefulbut it can stand proud that it has weathereda few storms

See you at Yoga It is fun and good foranyone at any age and just like the hokey-pokeyTHATs what its all about

Recent improvements at the intersectionof Boden Road and 156th Street have madethe crossing safer for motorists TheNoblesville Engineering Department hasadded signs indicating an upcoming stopalong the east-west sides of 156th Streetalong with multiple oversized stop signs atthe intersection A flashing light signal hasbeen constructed with a red light for156th Street and a yellow light on BodenRoad

ldquoThese improvements are above normalstandards to provide enhanced advancedwarningrdquo City Engineer John Beery said

Because there were a couple of seriousaccidents at the intersection in 2015officials said the improvements are apreventative measure taken to ensure driverscome to a complete stop on 156th Streetbefore proceeding

Actually the Millers made some bighistory

Noblesville won its first ever girlsregional cross country championshipSaturday at its home course ChanquapinRidge at White River Elementary SchoolThe Millers ended the eight-year regionalreign of Carmel by the score of 61-67

Hamilton County teams dominated thestandings securing all of the top five placesand thus qualifying for next Saturdayssemi-state in Shelbyville Fishers placedthird Westfield was fourth and GuerinCatholic finished fifth

Abi Little led Noblesville by takingfourth in a time of 181849

In terms of the team places Little scoredthree points The next four runners allfinished in the team top 19 Sophie Reichardscored 11 points Susanna Sharples-Gordon12 Aubrie Deal 16 and Abbie Klinker 19That was enough to offset Carmelsmonopolization of the top two places

Sarah Leinheiser won the individual racefor the Greyhounds clocking in at 175331Christina Geisler was the runner-upfinishing the course in 175331 IzzaKhurram had a huge day for Carmelfinishing in 10th place (scoring eight teampoints) The Greyhounds next two runnersscored 27 and 29 points respectively

Hamilton Heights had two girls runningat the regional Chloe Henderson placed 51stand Abby Christiansen was 86th

In the boys race Carmel reclaimed theregional plaque with a score of 54 pointsIts the Greyhounds state-leading 33rdregional title

Hamilton Southeastern placed secondwhile defending regional champion Fisherstook third All three schools advance to nextweeks Shelbyville semi-state

Carmel had two runners place in the top10 Colin Murphy finished third and BenMillers placed seventh

Hamilton Southeastern had theindividual champion as Gabe Fendelclocked in at 152239 Fishers Sam Kuhnplaced 10th to lead the Tigers

The Noblesville girls cross country team won its first ever regional championship Saturday at its own regional at ChanquapinRidge Cross Country Course The Millers scored 61 points outscoring eight-time defending champion Carmel by six points

regionalThe No 17-ranked Millers beat

Marion 3-0 to claim their firstregional championship since 2008and the fifth IHSAA regional in theschools history Noblesville nowadvances to the north semi-statewhich will be played at either SouthBend St Joseph or Warsaw to takeon No 1-ranked Penn The IHSAAwill announce the location in the nextday or two

This time of year its not aboutwho we play but how well we playas a team said Millers coach MikeBrady We started a little slow but

picked it up in the second halfThe Millers and the Giants were scoreless at halftime

but Noblesville got going in the second half DelaneyRiester Ashlyn Morefield and Maddie Rauch all scoredgoals for the Millers with Mackenzie Kincaid TaylorCrowe and Keely Hoopinganer all making assists Kincaid

Guerin Catholics spirited run came to an end Saturdayas the Golden Eagles fell to No 4-ranked and Class 2Adefending state champion Brebeuf Jesuit 2-0 in thechampionship of the Carmel regional

Guerin held the Braves scoreless in the first half butBrebeufs Alia Martin maneuvered her way into the goalarea in the second minute of the second half and kicked theball in for the games first goal

Martin got the second goal with 1229 left in the gameconverting a penalty kick

Despite the loss it was still aremarkable run for the Golden EaglesGuerin Catholic which finished itsseason 8-8-1 beat No 6 Zionsvilleand No 3 Carmel to win the Westfieldsectional then knocked off No 2Avon in Wednesdays regional semi-final

Carmel came from behind in three of thematches to win

I think we have a very strong sense ofself-belief in what were doing said FieldsWe understand how to win better than everWe also have the determination becauseweve been through X number of setbacks

we have the determination to finally putwhat we can do on a court in a winningsituation and thats what we did

The Greyhounds got the first set of thefinal when No 2 singles Drew Michael won6-2 North Central took the first set in theNo 1 singles and No 2 doubles matches

But the tide began to turn when Fletchallwho had dropped the first set at No 1 singlesto NCs Ian Brady 6-4 cruised through thesecond set 6-1 Moments later Michael wonthe second set of his match 6-2 thusgrabbing the first team point for Carmel

North Central soon took the first set inthe other two matches but Carmels No 2doubles team of Timmy Dixon and RohitNagaraj won the second set 6-4 afterdropping the first set 6-4 Dixon and Nagarajsoon secured the third and deciding set - also6-4 - putting the Hounds up 2-0 in the teamstandings

While that was going on Fletchall andBrady found themselves in a tiebreak for thethird set All eyes turned to that match andsoon they were watching Fletchall cheer -he won the tiebreak 7-4 thus clinching thematch and the state title

I really just dug deep and gaveeverything I could in the last tiebreaker toget it done said Fletchall

North Central won the No 3 singlesmatch for its lone point No 1 doubles wasthe last match to finish with Carmel winning(again) in three sets Ethan McAndrews andJay Natarajan prevailed 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-2The victory was important as McAndrewsand Natarajan qualified for the IHSAAsdoubles tournament due to their undefeatedrecord in the post-season Fletchallundefeated in both the regular and post-seasons will play in the singles tournament

I think the best part about winning stateis knowing that all our hard work has paidoff said Natarajan

It always surprises me how intense it ishere said McAndrews Its unlike anyother environment in tennis honestly NorthCentral-Carmels probably the biggestrivalry in high school tennis if not highschool sports and so its awesome to reallycapitalize on that here today

North Central soon took the first set inthe other two matches but Carmels No 2doubles team of Timmy Dixon and RohitNagaraj won the second set 6-4 afterdropping the first set 6-4 Dixon and Nagarajsoon secured the third and deciding set - also6-4 - putting the Hounds up 2-0 in the teamstandings

While that was going on Fletchall andBrady found themselves in a tiebreak for thethird set All eyes turned to that match andsoon they were watching Fletchall cheer -he won the tiebreak 7-4 thus clinching thematch and the state title

North Central won the No 3 singlesmatch for its lone point No 1 doubles wasthe last match to finish with Carmel winning(again) in three sets Ethan McAndrews andJay Natarajan prevailed 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-2The victory was important as McAndrewsand Natarajan qualified for the IHSAAsdoubles tournament due to their undefeatedrecord in the post-season Fletchallundefeated in both the regular and post-seasons will play in the singles tournament

It always surprises me how intense it ishere said McAndrews Its unlike anyother environment in tennis honestly NorthCentral-Carmels probably the biggestrivalry in high school tennis if not highschool sports and so its awesome to reallycapitalize on that here today

In the morning semi-finals Carmel tookcare of Bloomington North 5-0 TheGreyhounds won all the matches in straightsets dropping just 15 games NishanthBasavareddy won at No 3 singles joininghis afore-mentioned teammates in gettingvictories

The Carmel boys tennis team defeated North Central in a close meet to win its ninth state championship Saturday The final score was 4-1 but the Greyhounds hadto come from behind to win three matches in three sets

The Noblesville volleyball team finished 2-2 at the Carmel Invitational on SaturdayThe Millers defeated Elkhart Memorial 25-23 25-20 and Brownstown Central 25-13

25-16 Noblesville lost to Class 3A No 6 Bellmont 25-17 16-25 15-7 and to Floyd Central17-25 25-20 15-13
