The Rector writes...
One of the things I attempt to do in Lent is stop feeding my
stomach and start feeding my faith. That is easier said than
done! As part of this attempt to feed my faith I have been
reading. I read this recently: ‘What if the church’s job were to
move people out of the door instead of trying to keep them in,
by convincing them that God needed them more in the world
than in the church.’ (Barbara Brown Taylor) It is a challenging quote.
Our vision talks about transformation. That transformation is in our lives as
individuals as well as in our life together with others. Gathering together is to
encourage us in our walk of faith as well as giving us the opportunity to worship
God together. When the Bible talks about the role of Christian leaders it says
that they are, ‘to equip the saints for acts of service, so that the body of Christ
might be built up.’ (Ephesians 4v12)
I hope and pray that Lent will be an opportunity for you to reflect on God’s love
for you and to consider your response to that love. You may be at a point in
your life where you need to stop and hear those words of God remind you that
you are loved. You may need to hear a rebuke, or encouragement, you might
need to remember that you are not travelling alone but alongside you, in front
and behind, are fellow travellers. We are four very different parishes sharing a
journey. I believe that we can achieve more together and that we should be
building our dependence on one another. Alongside this sense of being a team
we need also to remember that we are individually members of this team, this
body of Christ. In this coming month I want us to see how we can listen for
God’s leading, and then as individuals and as individual parishes follow where
God would lead us.
Prayer remains at the heart of our mission and ministry. This is spiritual work
and we need to exercise our spiritual muscles to strengthen them. The regular
rhythm of weekly Sunday worship and private prayer will be an important el-
ement in this year of opportunity. You are all in my prayers as we seek to grasp
the opportunities God is preparing for our parishes and diocese in 2016.

Our New Vision Verse for this year is: Ephesians 3 v 20
‘God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, ac-
cording to his power that is at work within us.’

MU Area Service Sunday 13th March, St Peter @ 3.30pm. Mothers’ Union members are asked to make a special effort to attend the Holy Week Service, Tues 22nd March Holy Trinity Church, Culmore at 7pm.
Tea Party at Stormont
We were both pleased to be invited to an exclusive cel-ebratory Tea Party in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Stormont on the 3rd February. We were invited as we have been sponsoring children in partnership with World Vision for over 21 years.
Our sponsor child (our third child through sponsorship) is called Chamrong Loeurt. He is aged five and lives in Cambodia. Chamrong lives with his parents in Sot Nikum and with sponsorship he is able to attend a local school and receive an education. We receive school reports on his progress. His favourite pastime is playing ball games and at home his special job is cleaning the cowshed. In his area of Cambodia life is made harder for farmers by the lack of water during the dry season. During the rainy season, water sources are available but are not always clean, as ponds and traditional open wells are used for household needs.
We found it very interesting to meet with other sponsors at Stormont and hear their stories. World Vision also provided short videos of some of their good work in deprived areas and featured some of their ambassa-dors who were in attendance at Stormont for any questions.
We finally had the opportunity of a guided tour of Stormont which we thoroughly enjoyed before heading home.
