PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

• applythemostrecentevidence-basedfindingsandcurrentguidelinestooptimizeglucose,and control risk factors in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes.• understand the use of novel insulins and their indications.• understand facts and best strategies for the use of insulin pumps and glucose sensors in daily practice.• manage diabetes in post-transplant patients and in patients with chronic liver disease.• counsel their patients on the management of diabetes before and during pregnancy.• enhance practical skills needed to timely diagnose diabetes complications with a cost-effective approach.• apply effective prevention and treatment options for chronic diabetes complications and foot complications in patients with diabetes.• Appreciate the use of current advanced technology; from new blood glucose self-monitoring devices, continuous glucose sensors, insulin pumps, and their interface to smart phone apps, cars’ GPS and web-based platforms that support cost-effective, remote strategies to aid in the delivery of diabetes care and to involve patients in making guided self-care management decisions.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This half-day course is intended for primary care physicians, internal medicine physicians, endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, diabetes educators, registered dietitians, diabetic nurses, residents in internal medicine, endocrinology fellows, and other health care providers who care for patients with diabetes and prediabetes.

ACCREDITATION & CREDIT DESIGNATION

The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Michigan Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Applications have been submitted to the American Osteopathic Association and to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Other credits by specialty may apply.

ABIM MOC CREDIT
