Credit Where Credit is DueDid you earn college credits in high school or at another institution? Chatham’s generous credit transfer policies helped over 1/3 of our recent incoming class transfer in an average of nine college credits through College in High School, dual enrollment, and/or AP and IB transfer of credit.

In addition, Chatham’s streamlined general education requirements make it easy to stay on track to graduate while pursuing a double major, switching majors, or developing a second area of expertise with a minor or an interdisciplinary major.

Integrated Degree Programs (IDP)Qualified students pursuing an Integrated Degree Program: • Are guaranteed admission to their graduate program upon admittance

as an undergraduate • Take graduate classes during their senior year • Can earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in as few as five years

Three-year Degrees, Innovative PartnershipsHere’s just a sample: • Our three-year Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree includes the courses

you need without summer study—freeing you up for internships, travel, or job preparation.

• Through our Pathways to Nursing partnership with UPMC-affiliate Shadyside School of Nursing, students can earn their nursing diploma after three years, then finish by taking online classes for one year while they practice as a nurse—and graduate with their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

• We also have collaborative partnerships with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Duquesne University College of Law, Stetson University College of Law, and Carnegie Mellon University. Visit chatham.edu/idp to learn more.

WE MAKE TRANSFERRING EASY

For students looking to transfer from a community

college, Chatham offers transfer agreements that

support seamless transfer from your associate’s

degree to completion of your bachelor’s degree.

2+2 and 3+1 articulation agreements are offered

in an array of programs and help save you money

and ensure you graduate on time.

Opportunities other schools can’t provide. Why? Lots of reasons—our small size; the fact

that our faculty are here because they prize

helping our students; our location in Pittsburgh,

a city that’s a national hub for healthcare and

education, focused on ideas and innovation (and

in which we’ve built tons of connections across

disciplines over our nearly 150 years here).

We’ll push you farther (and be there every step of the way).“I switched the first-year Chatham Scholar’s science course to focus on scientific literacy—how to recognize bad data, and how bad science gets used to bolster arguments, on purpose or accidentally. Students choose a debate in the news, assess the arguments, and present their conclusions in a video presentation. I want them to feel like they could be on TV, presenting information. A bit of empowerment is the idea.” — David Fraser, Ph.D.,

Employers tell us repeatedly that what they’re looking for—and having a hard time finding—are candidates with skills like teamwork, problem-solving, creative thinking, communication, and leadership. Why? Because they have been under-emphasized in higher education.

Not at Chatham.

We weave these values into coursework, into extracurricular activities, into advising sessions, and into campus life as a whole. We help you connect to opportunities at Chatham and in the broader community where you can not only develop these skills, but gain tangible evidence of how you’ve used them to improve yourself and your world. That’s what sets you apart.

THAT’S THE CHATHAM DIFFERENCE.

The Chatham PlanThe Chatham Plan reflects a promise that Chatham makes to its

students—to prepare you for a fulfilling life. It’s a 5-step approach

to infusing your whole time at Chatham with everything you need to

launch your career.

STEPS 1 & 2: ASSESSMENT AND GOALSBeginning your first year, we help you launch your “My Chatham

Plan” and identify what strengths and skills come naturally to you,

which might be good to work on, and how these can help get you

to where you want to go.

STEP 3: PROFESSIONAL PREPARATIONYou will participate in courses and advising that will introduce you

to careers and provide you with the know-how to make a great

first impression that just gets better.

STEP 4: INTERNSHIPSThe supervised internship reinforces your skills outside the

classroom, and helps you figure out the kinds of roles and

environments that are right for you, all the while building your

resumé with real world skills.

STEP 5: THE GRADUATION CHECKLISTThe graduation checklist guarantees that no matter what your

major is, by the time you graduate, you’ll have completed

a capstone experience, developed top-notch writing skills

relevant to your field of study, and explored educational

technologies that’ll help you stay on top of your game

throughout your career.

FINANCIAL AID GLOSSARY*Cost of Attendance (COA): The total amount it will cost you to go to school—

usually stated as a yearly figure. COA includes tuition and fees; room and

board (or a housing and food allowance); and allowances for books, supplies,

transportation, loan fees, and dependent care.

Expected Family Contribution (EFC): This is a measure of your family’s

financial strength and is calculated according to a formula established by

law. Your family’s income and assets are all considered. Your EFC is not the

amount of money your family will have to pay for college nor is it the amount

of federal student aid you will receive. It is a number used by your school to

calculate the amount of federal student aid you are eligible to receive.

FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid, available at fafsa.ed.gov.

Federal Pell Grant: A federal grant for undergraduate students with

financial need. Grants are gift aid that do not need to be paid back.

Federal Student Aid: Financial aid from the federal government to help

you pay for education expenses at an eligible college or career school.

Grants, loans and work-study are types of federal student aid. You must

complete the FAFSA to apply for this aid.

Financial Aid Package: The total amount of financial aid (federal

and nonfederal) a student is offered by a college or career school.

The school’s financial aid staff combines various forms of aid into a

“package” to help meet a student’s education costs.

Financial Need: The difference between the cost of attendance (COA)

and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

Loans (Federal Student and Private): Loans are borrowed money that

must be repaid with interest. Federal student loans are funded by the

federal government. Private loans are made by a lender such as a bank,

credit union, state agency, or school.

Net Price: An estimate of the actual cost that a student and his family

need to pay in a given year. Net price is determined by taking the

cost of attendance and subtracting any grants and scholarships

for which the student may be eligible. Find Chatham’s Net Price

Calculator at chatham.edu/calculator.

Scholarships: Scholarships are gift aid for academic or other

achievements. They may or may not be renewable, and if so, may

require that you meet certain requirements to keep them.

Work-Study: A federal student aid program that provides part-

time employment while you are enrolled in school to help pay your

education expenses.
