Our visit to Rayners Orchards was well attended by Rotarians and partners. It was especially nice to see Diane and
David Jochetz enjoying the evening, and a nice way to welcome them home after their trip to the USA. Ron and
Heather Rayner helped make the evening a success with Ron giving us a tour of the orchard and his wife Heather
organising the meal. Thank you to Hans and his Vocation Committee and Geoff for picking up our meeting gong and
name badges.
The Farmers Market last Sunday was busy and for a change the weather was sunny and hot. It was our last Farmers
Market for 2013, and the visit by Santa, alias Tim Hewitt, was a highlight. Bunnings BBQ was a great success and
takings were well over what we expected with a profit of $1662.90 well done and thank you to all members who
helped with the Farmers Market BBQ and Bunnings BBQ, it was a big day to fill both rosters for to BBQs on the same
day. Please keep in mind the Bunnings BBQ for December 31st
, if you can help fill a spot on the roster please contact
Geoff Welsh.
Tim Hewitt has been busy organising the pickup of more unwanted school desks and chairs from Lilydale High School.
Tim and a group of dedicated members and Friends of Rotary helped with pickup, loading, unloading and cleaning the
desks of chewing gum. These desks and chairs will be much appreciated by many children in East Timor. I believe Tim
said that they have so far collected and taken to DIK over a thousand desks and chairs. Well done and a big thank you
to all the workers.
Last week Michael Young left for East Timor to install some electrical components on machinery sent to East Timor
from Australia. We wish Michael a safe return.
On Monday 2nd
December Peter Walter died peacefully in Knox Private Hospital after suffering a stroke some two
weeks ago. Peter was a much loved and respected member of our Club for over 30 years, serving on committees and
also as President 1985 – 86. Peter received a PHF in March 1989 and was then further acknowledged for his
contribution to our Club with a Sapphire Pin. After retiring, Peter became a Friend of Rotary. We extend our deepest
sympathy to Peter’s family and loved ones.

VALE – PP PETER WALTER PHF+1 Our esteemed past member of our Club (32 years), Peter Walter, passed away peacefully last Monday morning at Knox Private Hospital. after suffering a stroke two weeks ago. Peter will be remembered fondly by all members for being a true gentleman. He had an engaging smile and a twinkle in his eye at all times. Peter was inducted into the Rotary Club of Lilydale on June 6th, 1978 and was elected President in the 1985–86 Rotary year. Peter's classification was real estate sales/property valuations, and his skills as an auctioneer were often utilized in auctioning of articles at Club fundraising activities. Former member Ray Donovan, also in real estate and was mentored by Peter. Peter and his wife Michaela (who passed away several years ago) were active members of the Club. Peter took a lead role in our Club in the formation of RC Chirnside Park. Peter was originally named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1989 and subsequently received a Sapphire a few years later. Peter lived in St Hubert Road Coldstream prior to retiring to a unit at Mingarra, Croydon. Former Rotarian & PP Noel Dight spoke on behalf of Peter's family. The large attendance of Rotarians, past & present, as well as community representatives, at his funeral service in Woori Yallock, attest to the respect he had in the Yarra Valley.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Hospitality is making your guests feel like
they're at home, even if you wish they were.
COMMUNITY SERVICE SUPER SUNDAY Sunday, December 1st, was a community service super Sunday as the Club had the Lilydale Farmers Produce Market at Bellbird Park and a BBQ at Bunnings at Chirnside Park. It proved to be a huge commitment by members to cover the various tasks that needed to be completed before, during and after the service activities.
Lilydale Farmers Produce Market The market was held on a beautiful sunny day when lots of people are out and about perusing the various items on sale from the 50 or so stallholders. The estimated profit is $2,500
Above, Santa Claus (Tim Hewitt) visited the barbecue
contingent comprising: Delwyn Ellis, Peter Loosely, Margi Sank, and Ann Wheeler. To the right, Santa Claus, with his convivial manner, captivated the children who are at the market with their parents. Below, the Police came to do Police checks on Ann Wheeler, Ann Killian and President Helen McDonald
BBQ at Bunnings The BBQ at Bunnings is always a demanding day and many helpers are required to make it a success. BBQ made $1,700 Below are some of your members and partners who can to visit to the success on the day – Geoff Welsh, Phil Herry, Patrick Hartley, Richard and Jenny Selway. The wiry elder US Texan "General" David Jochetz was on duty to ensure sausages sales were above average.
SCHOOL TABLES AND CHAIRS FOR TIMOR LESTE Tim Hewitt, and his many helpers, were collecting tables, desks and tables to deliver to the Donation in Kind (DIK), store in West Footscray. They loaded up 309, chairs and 30 desks/tables, so they could be stored at the warehouse awaiting packing in a container. The photograph shows Peter Loosely, Tim Hewitt & Michael Gavin after successfully loading the utility and tandem trailer.
However, most of the tables needed the removal of chewing gum stuck underneath the tables – just as
well a hospital bed was at hand to have the weary Tim Hewitt and Peter Loosely time to rest.
To the right, shows David Yates standing guard on the tables and chairs at the DIK, store.

large donation of hand sanitizer (ABHR)
The first 24 boxes have recently arrived
at Bairo Pite Clinic. The ABHR will be

supported through DIK.
“Teddies for Timor” and Rotarian Rhonda Kellett
have been busy drumming up sponsorship and therefore money for freighting good to Timor Leste. Recently we have had stall at Mount Evelyn Street Party and the Kyneton Town Hall. Approximately $1200 has been spent on freight (through DIK) in the last three months!
Our latest delivery of goods arrived in Dili on November 21st. Thanks to DIK and especially Daryl Mills for coordinating their arrival to the clinic. This message was received later that day..
”Dear Jenny
Just back, hot and sticky from a morning at the yard receiving the latest boxes. Hand sanitizer and plenty of
it, thanks. Now locked in the stock container and distributed to each department a bottle at a time.
Plus, Teds, jumpers and other goodies, which I am about to open and sort. There is also a box of t shirts,
purple colour, and more clothes and teds and toys.
The Doctor and Nurses were thrilled with the BP and otoscope and oxymeter, Snr Nurse Roswita is going to
give the watches out at training day next week. Pics to follow.
I am saving the wall mounted BP for our new ER which should be early in the new year.
Shall I hold on to Lydias present until nearer Xmas ?
Best wishes and love to all at Lilydale for Xmas. Many many thanks to all for your continued support and
commitment.”
Fi Oakes, Clinic Manager, BPC
