    Fuel for Thought:

Well here it is August already, kind of a quiet time of year. Ken and I are signed up for the Christopher Creek Fire Department Car Show at the Boy Scouts camp this year on the 29th of August. Hope to see some of you guys there. Everyone at the meeting knows Butch Tucker has volunteered to be Car Show Chairman for 2016 (with Julius Zezima as his assistant). They will need help from the Club so pitch in where you can.

We as a Club spent a whole year looking for a treasurer and we still do not have one. Sandi Gunderson is pulling double duty trying to help me keep the bills paid. While on the subject let’s get started early looking for a New President, Vice President, especially a Treasurer, Secretary, etc.

Barbra Gooch has retired from Valley Imaging and the new guy there does not seem to want to work with us. This is a huge blow to the Club as they did our posters, flyers, and newsletters for those who do not have computers and our monthly agendas, any ideas?

    AUGUST 2015

The top 3 overall popular colors in our area are:

    Silver 23% White 15% Black 12%

Most popular colors for SUVs / Mini vans / Light trucks are:

    White 19.3% Silver 18%

Black 12.4% Medium dark blue 11.4%

    Medium dark gray 7.5%

Most popular colors for luxury cars are:

    Silver 32.1% White metallic 17.7%

White 11.8% Medium dark blue 8.6%

    Black 8.5%

Silver continues to lead every car segment in popularity (except SUVs, Mini vans, and Light trucks in which silver is a very close second).

It is our affinity for technology that lures us to silver. “Silver and gray reflect our fascination with technology, such as seen in the brushed chrome cues on laptop computer covers and other electronic devices. Secondly, silver and techno-gray seem to accentuate the angular, ‘new-edge design’ of the latest luxury sport vehicles.” (says Robert S. Daly, color-marketing manager of Dupont Automotive, a major paint supplier to the automotive industry).

Others believe that silver relates to “feelings of superiority” and “great mental powers”.

Color plays a role in the residual value of your car, so today’s popular colors will probably make your vehicle more popular to a buyer 5 years from now. It follows that less popular colors depre-ciate the value of your car.

A study by the Yankelovich Partners found 39% of consumers were likely to change brands if they couldn’t get the color they wanted, another example of the power of color!

    AUGUST 2015

Most hydraulic / A/C systems involve special hoses and fittings to withstand the pres-

sures involved with these systems. Often you will need a special tool to “swage” or

crimp the fittings on to the hoses. The swaging tool is usually cost prohibitive due to

the limited use it will see in your shop. NAPA to the rescue. They can do most any size

hydraulic or A/C hose. Make sure you have the correct orientation (clock position) be-

fore you get the fitting and hose permanently attached to one another. I wrap a piece of

blue tape around the hose next to the fitting and then use a black marker and draw a

line across the fitting and tape. Hope this helps and good luck with your project!
