All Things Prayer! Abiding in Relationship “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves” (Ephesians 1:4-6). I have learned that abiding in relationship is all about relationship. Because, He is One. We’re learning that everything that is really good began between Them, where love has always lived. The Father, like the sun, radiating beams of love. The Son, glorious reflection, mirroring the Father. The Begetter and the Begotten. Eternally. In the strong bond of the Spirit. All three forever in true love. It is this loving relationship which birthed you and me (along with all else). I love my parents and will be eternally grateful for family, teachers, friends and adversaries who helped form me along the way. They were mentors for a season. They all participated (and still participate at times) in His conception of me. But, He is our rightful Father (Mt. 23:9). We’re chosen, adopted into His eternal family (Eph. 1:5). This family of those who do His will (Mt. 12:46-50). God’s strong right-hand Word formed us from frail dust, while His powerful left-hand Spirit energized us into being. We are now sons and daughters of Abraham, called out of Egypt, given the Law and Prophets, the Incarnate Word, the Written Word, martyrs, trailblazers, guides, friends and witnesses all though the ages. PLEASE CONSIDER A YEAR END GIFT: If you have been blessed, please Click here to give a tax-deductible gift to Harvest Prayer Ministries so that we can keep these devotions coming free of charge to all who wish to receive them. Choose “Connection Daily Devotions” in the drop down box. Thank you for prayerfully considering a gift! And that’s not all. Formed by His many beams of love, we are now being transformed into Him (2 Cor. 3:18). We’re being re-created to live in our heart’s true home: This eternal relationship of love that paint-ed the first supernova, smiled at the first sunrise and welcomes children home. This relationship we call the Trinity is our eternal destiny.. Knowing where we came from and where we’re headed makes all the difference when we are in life’s wilderness. The desert becomes a place of instruction rather than destruction. A place where, as we draw life from Him, we grow up. Listening deeper. Feeling healthier. Thinking clearer. Doing better. Lov-ing more. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, my mind is too finite to comprehend Your mystery, but the heart You creat-ed within me longs for that “eternal relationship of love” that is my eternal destiny. I long to know You fully as I am known. Thank You for all of the people you have brought into my life to speak Your truth, who have formed and shaped my life in every season. When I walk through desert places, or times of uncertainty, help me to remember the loving relationship that formed me and to trust Your desire to transform me day by day to be holy and blameless in Your sight. –Adapted from Giving Ourselves to Prayer: An Acts 6:4 Primer for Ministry Prayer Points Praise God for his marvelous plan of redemption worked out through history. Thank God for the signifi-cant leaders he called to make a difference in the growth of the Christian movement. Confess times when God called you to lead in some way, but you chose rather to follow. Commit yourself to discover-ing how the use of your gifts can influence others to follow Jesus. Ask God to give you courage and in-sight as he calls you to go and bear fruit that will last (Jn. 15:16). Pray that political leaders throughout the world will recognize Jesus Christ as Lord. Ask that repentance and revival will come to nations which have not yet honored him. –Prayer Points taken from Patterns for Prayer by Alvin VanderGriend.

Want to be a Member of CUMC? If you are considering becoming a member of CUMC, please contact the church office at 410-758-0868 or contact Jennifer Gragg at [email protected] for a registration form and a syllabus for the upcoming 2017 classes. Classes begin February 16th!

Sunday School The Sunday School is looking for a middle school co-teacher to join our team. We are also in need of substitute teachers to fill in if a teacher needs to take a Sunday off. Please contact Kim Parkerson at [email protected] if you are interested.

HIS HELPERS

At CUMC we have a wonderful outreach program called “His Help-ers.” It is more of a behind the scenes ministry that doesn’t get a lot of publicity. We reach out to anyone within the church during a time of need and provide them with meals on a temporary basis. That “time of need” might be due to surgery, illness, a death in the family, or even a joyous time such as the birth of a child where new parents are juggling lots of things while trying to get into a routine. I share with you about His Helpers for two important reasons…. First, it is often difficult for us to ask for help, even when we know we need it! But please, think about it this way – if the shoe were on the

other foot, wouldn’t you offer to help? Of course you would, so please don’t be shy about ask-ing for help when you need it. By the same token, if you know of a friend within the church who is going through such a time, let us know. We will reach out to them directly. Second, if you haven’t been a part of this wonderful ministry before, PLEASE consider adding your name to the volunteer list. I promise it will be very little imposition on your part! When I send out a request for help, I always allow people to choose which night is convenient for them, and I give detailed instructions as to when/where/how to deliver the meal. Additionally, I try very hard to “rotate” volunteers, so if you helped one time you will not be asked immediately the next time there is a need. When all is said and done I might ask you to provide a meal once every 3-4 months, if that often! I can tell you from the MANY people who have been recipients of this ministry that it is indeed a blessing! Reaching out to one another in our time of need is what it means to truly be Christ-like. And I have so say, we have some amazing chefs in this church! Please consider becom-ing involved or letting us know if this is a time when you or someone close to you within the church might need that help. Contact Pastor Robyn at [email protected]. The more the merrier! Thank you for considering and blessings!

February Prayer Workshop Due to Confirmand Weekend, we WILL NOT be having February's Prayer Workshop.

Food Pantry Food Drive Many thanks to all of you who made the Thanksgiving and Christmas food drive a success—namely, our Sunday School children and teach-ers, our youth group who went out canvassing the neighborhood, and our congregation, especially those of you who continually donate to us. November and December are by far our busiest two months with food coming in from the community as well as our own church. Every last can, bag, bottle, or container has to be checked for expiration dates—it’s a long process, but we’re finally finished! The pantry is well stocked right now, but all that food will dwindle down eventually. Help us help our neighbors by keeping those dona-tions coming in throughout 2017. The one question we’re frequently asked is, ‘what do you need’? Answer: anything and eve-rything—laundry soap ($1 at Dollar Tree), shampoo, toothpaste & toothbrush; canned fruit; cereals (hot and cold); canned meats and tuna; sugar (1 lb. box—again, $1 at Dollar Tree); spaghetti and spaghetti sauces plus Chef-Boyardee pastas; Hamburger, Chicken, or Tuna Helper; soups. The list is endless. Right now we’re fully stocked on vegetables, but again, that will change as the year progresses. Hope this gives you some direction if you decide to help out—our two blue bins are in plain sight. We hope you have a happy and healthy 2017—thank you again and blessings for your sacri-fice and compassion. Bob and Linda Scheina

Bears in the Pew Many thanks to all who have contributed bears and ribbons for the bear ministry. All contribu-tions are greatly appreciated. We will be having a bear work session very soon; so if you have any donations for this, please leave them in the bear closet by the office. Blessings from the "Mama Bears"

Seeking Newsletter Editor Do you have a few spare hours a month to put together this newsletter? CUMC is looking for a reliable person to take over the Newsletter Editor position. After 5 years of putting this publication together, I feel it is time to pass this ministry on to someone new. No experience is needed but basic computer knowledge is very helpful! The church provides the Publisher software, so all you need is a computer, the inter-net, and an active email address. I am happy to train whoever is interested in taking over this important ministry. Please contact the church office, 410-758-0868 or me directly [email protected]. Thank you for any interest! An Update on our Collaborations with New Life Community

United Methodist Church….

As some of you might be aware, during 2016 we decided to make a joint effort with our brothers and sisters from New Life Commu-nity UMC right down the road to spend more time in fellowship and out-reach with one another. On December 17

th we had the opportunity to

do exactly that when we went caroling together at Corsica Hills and brought the residents gift bags from each of our churches. It was truly a wonderful afternoon of fun and fellowship, and it brought amazing smiles to the faces of all of the residents at Corsica. The pictures speak for themselves! Stay tuned for more opportunities in the New Year to collaborate with New Life in the name of Christ!

Outreach: Reaching Out into our Community to Make a Difference

Volunteer Opportunity Saturday Feb. 11 The United Methodist Commission On Relief staging area (called the HUB) is having a work

day on Saturday Feb. 11th

in Christiana, Delaware. Volunteers are needed to assemble relief buckets (flood buckets, health kits, birth-ing kits,…) with the supplies already gathered at the church. This is open to all ages. We will meet at the church at 8:45 AM and car-pool to Christiana. We will stop for lunch afterwards before return-ing home mid afternoon. If you are interested, contact Larisa at [email protected] or 410-758-2144 for more infor-mation.

Help Rebuild our County April 29th

: Seeking Handyman/Contractor Once again it is time to help in our local community! CUMC is participating for the 13

th year in

the home renovation project in Queen Anne’s county. You don’t need particular skills, we have many odd jobs to be done, and anyone over 14 can join in. It is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in our community in one day. We are looking for a handyman/contractor to head up our one-day project this year. The official date is April 29

th, but if another week-

end works for you, it can be changed. You can contact Larisa at [email protected] or 410-758-2144 for more information.
