H enry P. Becton was born in Rutherford, New Jersey, on September 15, 1914. He was a

very active member of the community including the Boy Scouts and received the honor and rank of distinguished Eagle Scout. He was involved in New Jersey civic life for more than four decades. Community Bank. He was a borough councilman of Rutherford, New Jersey, a director of the Bergen County and New Jersey Chambers of Commerce, a founding director of the Community Chest of Bergen County, now the United Way, and a founding commissioner of the New Jersey Public Broadcasting Authority He spent his professional life working for BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), the international medical instruments company co-founded by his father. “When the East Rutherford, New Jersey high school burned down, BD donated land for a new school renamed the Henry P. Becton Regional High School”. Since 1971, this high school bears his name-Henry P. Becton Regional High School.

Henry P. Becton Regional High School September 1971 Volume 1, Issue 1

H enry P. Becton Regional High School is the fulfillment of a

long awaited hope—a high school with the capacities for the serving of all its pupils. Also, through mutual ownership, two communities have united in a common effort. With the passing of the referendum in June 1968, came the realization that much had to be done to fulfill the years of hoping, struggling, and planning for a new school. The school had to be built, equipped, furnished, staffed, and provided with an updated curriculum. Today we look with justifiable pride at the results of the efforts of so many people—a building complete in almost every respect for its dedicated purpose, the development and guidance of our children.
