Property settlements are set to become simpler andmore efficient with a company today appointed todesign and build a national e-conveyancing platform. Acting Treasurer Rachel Nolan said the appointmentof Accenture by National E-ConveyancingDevelopment Limited (NECDL) was an important stepforward in cutting red tape and simplifying propertysettlement. "NECDL is the company responsible for developing anational electronic system for property exchange, andis majority-owned and funded by the Queensland,Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australiangovernments," Ms Nolan said. "NECDL has also secured funding from the big fourbanks, who will become minority shareholders in thecompany."Ms Nolan said national e-conveyancing is a keyproject in the Council of Australian Governments'agenda to create a seamless national economy."It will reduce the need for conveyancers, solicitors

and bank staff to meet in one place to complete aproperty settlement," she said.

"It will also help streamline the property settlementprocess, and cut the regulatory and administrativeburden for government, business and communities.

"Home buyers also stand to benefit from reduced timeand money spent on property conveyancing, andthose in the industry will enjoy process efficiencies.

"The system will also deliver increased and enhancedclient identity verification and checking processes -welcome improvements in light of a spike in realestate scams.

"The new system will be a big win for anyone who hasever experienced the complexities associated withproperty transactions."

National e-conveyancing will commence in 2012 asNECDL will be working closely with key stakeholders inthe coming months to determine their needs.
