The SCF is focused on the changes that are occurring within mobile networks to serve the exponential growth in mobile traffic while delivering the HetNet promise of a seamless customer experience across all elements of the wireless network – including macro, small cell, DAS and Wi-FiSmall cells are now an established technology, but the next challenges revolve around network scalability and widespread integration.
Why HetNet and SON is important
© Small Cell Forum Ltd 2016
• The HetNet approach to mobile network planning will underpin network densification
• HetNets will deliver the coverage and capacity requirements in the coming years

Many Networks Seamless Experience Optimized Performance
• SON is automation technology that enables the network to set itself up and self-manage resources and configuration to achieve optimal performance
• The self-organizing, self-optimizing capability of the small cell smooth the path for residential HetNet implementation
• Small cell SON capabilities must be advanced and managed within the context of the wider Macro Network SON in an integrated HetNet approach.
