It only takes four hexagons each to make these acorns. The photos below will guide you step by step to quick success. These acorns are not just a cute autumn home decoration, but they may also serve as a fun toy. Skills: Basic pin loom weaving skills. Basic sewing skills. Basic crocheting skills. To Make an Acorn

Weave three hexagons in 3329 Butternut (mustard yellow). Weave one hexagon in 33115 Bear (brown). If you need help with weaving on the TURTLE Loom™, please view the instructional videos at http://bit.ly/TurtleLoom

Lay out the three yellow hexagons in front of you with the starting tips pointing to each other as shown.

Sew the touching sides of the hexagons together as shown.

Next, sew the sides marked in red to the sides marked in blue. Start where the red meets the blue, and then sew down two sides of the hexagons.

Repeat this step for the other two sides, but leave a small opening on the last side for stuffing.

Lightly stuff the acorn body, then sew it close completely.

The brown hexagon will form the acorn cap. Position the hexagon as shown so that the corners of the brown hexagon match the tops of the yellow acorn body.

Sew almost straight across, holding in the tip of the brown hexagon. The brown hexagon will start to form a little dome.

Sew around all sides, leaving a small opening at the end. Lightly stuff the dome, or acorn cap, then close the opening. All your acorn now needs is a stem.

For the stem, cut a piece of brown yarn, about 4 times the length of a crochet hook.

Fold this yarn end twice, as shown.

Using the crochet hook from your weaving loom kit, slide under 2x2 threads near the center of the acorn cap and pull the yarn through.

Crochet about 4-5 chain stitches, then pull the yarn end through on the last stitch. Pull the yarn end tight. Weave the yarn end into the stem, or clip it off.

Congratulations! You’re done! Enjoy!

More ideas:

Make a bowl full of acorns as table centerpiece.

Combine the acorns with other autumn crafts, for example the “All Natural Candy Corn Pillows” or the “Autumn Table Runner”.

Use the TinyTURTLE™ loom to make smaller acorns, use the TexaTURTLE™ loom to make larger acorns. You can follow the same instructions, you just need less yarn for the smaller (about 10 yds yellow, 5 yds brown) and more yarn for the larger acorns (about 40 yds yellow, 15 yds brown).

Mix and match the different sizes for an extra fun display.

Crafting the acorns without the caps will make great juggling balls. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you. [email protected]
