It was fantastic to see so many kindergarten students attend the bedtime stories evening on Tuesday and I think the parents enjoyed the stories just as much as the kids did. Our book character parade on Thursday was a great success and both the students and teachers looked amazing. Finally, a visit from children’s author and illustrator James Foley was a great way to end the week. Thank you to our librarian Katie Whelan for all her hard work behind the scenes making these events a reality. Ridges Zone Athletics Carnival Yesterday, North Kellyville PS sent a team of students to the Ridges Athletics carnival. All students were a credit to themselves and represented their school with pride. A few magnificent individual results were achieved with 3 students progressing to the Sydney West Regional carnival early next term. More information about these results can be found in the sports desk section. Kiss and Drop Zone A reminder that our designated kiss and drop zone is on Hezlett Road and there is parking available on Hipwell Avenue if required. If all parents can ensure they use the appropriate areas correctly to ensure our students safety and minimise congestion in our surrounding streets. Jersey Day Next Friday, 30 th August is Jersey Day. Students are able to wear their favourite jersey or teams colours on this day. Here is the link to the Jersey Day website if you wish to learn more. We ask that if you would like your child to participate that parents have an age appropriate discussion with their child/ren in regards to the purpose of Jersey Day – raising awareness of organ donation. 2020 Enrolments We are now accepting enrolments for 2020. If you know of any future students who have not yet enrolled, it would assist our organisation greatly if you could please prompt them to enrol. Being able to accurately predict student numbers ahead of times enables recruitment and procurement processes to be more streamlined and effective. When students enrol late we are less prepared. Orientation days for Kindergarten 2020 will be very early next term. Please note that students residing outside of the catchment zone, including those who live in close proximity south of the school, must complete a non-local enrolment application for their enrolment to be considered. Non-local students are not guaranteed enrolment. Only exceptional and compelling cases are considered. North Kellyville Public School catchment zone Community Grant – We Need Your Vote! Thank you to the parents and friends of the school who have taken the time to vote in the MyCommunity Grant initiative. North Kellyville Public School is desperately seeking $65,000 in support to finance outdoor play equipment. Only the projects with the most votes will be funded. Your solitary vote may be the difference between us being given $65,000 or nothing! More information can be found here including details about how to vote. The voting page is here. PRINCIPAL’S NEWS

Calendar on the Website Another helpful feature of the school website is the community calendar which is filling up quickly. We are diligently working to make this a trusted source of information about all school events. Take a look if you haven’t already and offer any suggestions to [email protected].

Term 3 Accounts Term 3 statements of account will soon be issued via email to the parent listed as ‘parent 1’ on each student’s enrolment form. The only items that will appear are any new costs this term (such as excursions) and any outstanding payments from Terms 1 and 2. I strongly encourage parents to make payment as soon as possible as the school is required to pay suppliers for resources. Years 4-6 camp and Swim School require pre-payment. Please see separate notices for details. Thanks Thanks for having me! It has been great to be a part of North Kellyville PS for the past few weeks. Although I have only been here for a short time it is easy to see the outstanding foundations that have been put in place to ensure students have access to the best possible education. I have enjoyed getting to know the students, they are very welcoming. The staff are dedicated and committed to providing opportunities for students and it has been a pleasure to support them in this. Mr Moth will return next week. All the best for the remainder of 2019, your foundation year. Luke Hogan Relieving Principal 23 August 2019

Parent Workshop – Learning Links Thank you to the parents who supported our parent workshop presented by Learning Links. It was unfortunate that 50% of registered attendees were 'no shows' for the session but those that attended found it very valuable. Parents learnt the basics for speech pathology and occupational therapy including how to support their children with their development of language and when to ask for hep from an external provider. We also spent some time discussing pencil grip and handwriting and parents were given some strategies around supporting their children in changing the pencil grip to a more effective one. Week of Tastes – Year 4 This week students in year 4 have been seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling and talking TASTE - that is what Week of Tastes is about! Sound both inside and outside our head plays a role in how we taste. Students learnt that food has less taste when our environment is noisy. Even the tempo of background music can influence our eating – slower music allows us to linger whereas fast paced music will speed up our eating. Students were blindfolded for some of the tastings which taught them that they can’t always trust their eyes. On Monday the Year 4 students will welcome Sarah Musico a 3rd year Apprentice Chef at the Star in Sydney. Sarah is also part of the young chef club of the Australian Federation and is currently working in a brand new restaurant called Chuuka which is owned by both Chase Kojima and Victor Liong. Sarah will talk to our students about food and even give them a tasting of some of the things she likes to cook.
