HFT Organization

• Flemming Videbaek– Project manager• Mechanical Engineer– Eric Anderssen

– Prepared/supervised the analysis for the IDS engineer review

– Conducts or supervising essentially all detector engineering• Electrical Engineer– Ciro D’Agostino

– Member of Star Technical Support Group (STSG)– Has electrical techs that are EEI’s– Will document electrical installations .– Will obtain NEC training– Oversees electrical installation

• Dana Beavis– Safety Coordinator

What is planned this summer

• Remove old internal support cones (STSG)• Recover existing beam pipe (STSG)• Assemble 4 FGT disks with 3 quadrants (FGT)• Install FGT into West Support cone

– FGT safety review Sept. 2, 2009• Assemble IDS (inner detector Support) (HFT)

– Partially reviewed with FGT on Sept. 2, 2009– C-AD Engineering review Conducted on July 15, 2011

• IDS installation into STAR is essentially identical to the old cones.

Summer 2011 continued

• FGT and IDS parts onto SVT platform with manlift• Total weight of all parts is about 100 pounds• Bolt IDS parts together on SVT rails• No critical lifts this year• At some future date lifting the assembled IDS

with detectors will become either a critical lift or a pre-engineered lift.

• Existing Beam pipe will be transported onto SVT platform with manlifts.

• May secure rollup doors while IDS “exposed”

Changes from FGT review

• Using existing beam pipe this year– Simple beam pipe holders compatible with IDS will be

designed and installed in conjunction with C-AD vacuum group.

– Simple air seal between beam pipe and OSC transition– Bake out process with be the existing hot air system– Will monitor conditions of FGT during beam pipe bake

out– Need to document the bake out and beam pipe holding.– Will Have Peter C. and vacuum group review all

conditions for beam pipe installation• Only a fraction of FGT will be installed this year

Changes from FGT review

• Additional reviews of the electrostatics of the shroud and the inner field cage (IFC) have been conducted. More careful treatment demonstrates that when the structure of the inner field cage is taken into account the gradients are largest there and not near the shroud.

• The shroud is now intended to be grounded with the option to be put at a potential.

Safety items

• Discussed ASE with Ray Karol. He agrees that the term silicon detectors means any ignition source inside the IFC where flammable gas can pool. (see SAD 5.9.8)

• Need to determine if the FGT falls into this requirement.

• Need to determine if the change from cones to IDS has any impact on the HSSD to detect smoke.

Phased Work

• This Fall expect to bring IST and SSD system for review by ESRC.

• Final review of new beam pipe.• Review of any PXL installation platforms or other

installation structures.• Summer of 2012 will install engineering PXL• Upgrade fire protection in “clean room” after

discussions with fire engineer (probably HSSD)• May have tented assembly area inside assembly hall• Final installations in summer of 2013.
