High Risk Emergency Medicine Hawaii is a coursedesigned to address those topics that, due to the riskof misdiagnosis or misadventure, produce the greatestanxiety and concern in the daily practice of emergencymedicine. Offered by the Department of EmergencyMedicine at the University of California, San Francisco,nationally renowned for emergency medical andtrauma care, this conference will meet the needs ofthe practitioner who encounters a high risk condition intheir daily medical practice. This includes practicingemergency physicians as well as internists, familypractitioners, and others who practice in an urgentcare, high risk, or emergency department setting.

OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this conference are to improvecompetence and performance in diagnosis, application of current treatment recommendations, and patientcounseling for:

• Appropriate diagnosis and management of pediatrichead and neck trauma, sedation, fever, andhematologic and oncologic emergencies;

• Accurate identification and treatment of patients with pulmonary embolism, poisoning, TIA andStroke, smoke inhalation, hypertension, and softtissue infections;

• Identification and management of patients withpneumonia, performance of vascular access,procedural sedation, psychiatric emergencies, airway management, head and occular trauma, and bleeding.

ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine(UCSF) is accredited by theAccreditation Council for ContinuingMedical Education to providecontinuing medical education forphysicians.

UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 24.00 AMA PRACategory 1 CreditsTM. Physiciansshould only claim creditcommensurate with the extent oftheir participation in the activity.

- The General Session is designated for 18.00 AMA PRA Category 1CreditsTM.

- Ultrasound-Guided Vascular Accessoptional workshop is designated for1.75 AMA PRA Category 1CreditsTM.
