National Recycling Week

MidCoast Waste Services is celebrating National Recycling Week by sponsoring the latest “Waste Not” books to school libraries. Some nine inspiring titles have arrived and are being picked up by our teachers to help with sustainable living topics in the classroom. Our Hospitality and Food Technology teachers are looking at the ‘waste-free’ techniques and are pleased with the additional donation of food scrap recycling buckets. Our school kitchen food scraps are popular with the school’s chickens which are kept as part of our agricultural program.Thank you to Meagan Griffi ths, Education Offi cer at MidCoast Waste Services for organising this.

Welcome to our newly inducted Student Representative Council who came together for their fi rst planning day this week. Congratulations to you all, we look forward to participating in the exciting activities you have planned for the new year.

Camden Haven Show

On October 19 the Ag Show Team attended Camden Haven Show. Our students represented Chatham High with pride. The students did really well in both the Junior Judging and Paraders. Our school was named most successful school of the show based on the number of ribbons we

won which lead to us being donated an Angus Steer from the Show Society’s Chairperson and Secretary, Sean and Jody Gleeson. We were lucky enough to walk away with the Champion Led Steer and the Gordon Ramsay Memorial Award for the Best British/British X Steer. Overall it was a very successful show and we thank Mr K and Mrs Deas for allowing us to attend such an amazing show.Gypsy-Lee Marshall

Gypsy-Lee Marshall

Congratulations to our very own Gypsy-Lee, who, as a result of her previous success at the Royal Easter Show, was selected to be the Fruit and Vegetable judge for the Camden Haven Show. The judging was conducted during the afternoon with approximately 50 pieces to be judged. This was a great experience for Gypsy as she prepares for the 2020 Royal Easter Show where she will once again participate in the Junior Vegetable Judges State Competition.

Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza

The annual Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza in Scone was truly memorable. Chatham High participated for the 4th year running and 2019 was our most successful one yet. Not only did our students come home with 7 parading ribbons but we were also fortunate enough to win quite a prestigious ribbon with one of our animals. Our Limousin steer “Parker” was crowned the Reserve Heavyweight Champion of the show much to the delight of all our supporters which was spearheaded by Mr Peter Longworth from Kundle Park. This year we exhibited 7 animals of various breed types provided to us by a number of local breeders, our animals included 3 Limousin steers from Kundle Park Limousin Stud, 2 Senepol steers from Eagle Ridge Senepols, 1 Hereford steer from the Gill Family and an Angus x Charolais Heifer bred by one of our teachers Mr Brian Adams.

Congratulations to:Nicholas Orchard placed 5th in his heat. Madison Gill placed 3rd in her heat. Bridie Stone placed 4th in her heatChloe Bisley (attends Taree Christian College but participated under the CHS banner) came 5th in her heat. Mitchell Sheldon placed 3rd in his heat. Lacey Mills placed 3rd in her heat. All the students should be congratulated for their hard work during the offseason.
