Hilton United Methodist Church
March 2015
Pastor’s Corner
Grace and Peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ. It is great to be back!! I enjoyed a productive and
rest-filled time away from the everyday responsibilities of local church ministry. You may recall that
one of the charges of my time away was to put together an 8 week class for current and potential church
leadership. I have done this and have shared with SPRC my plan for the class.
Hawaii was amazing and you just might (in a service in the future) see a video of me going waaaaay
beyond my comfort zone!! Keep watch!
I hope that you were able to receive a copy and continue to read during the Lenten season the
devotional, Cultivating Fruitfulness. I am finding the devotions challenging and inspiring. This week
we are focusing on Intentional Faith Development. How do we intentionally develop our faith? How
does Jesus command us to continue to grow in our faith? How did the early church cultivate faith
development in the midst of severe persecution?
The scripture focus for this week is: Acts 2: 42-47
Ephesians 3:14-21
II Corinthians 5:17
I can’t wait to see your faces in worship on Sunday!!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jennifer Green

News from Nurture:
We will be beginning Healthy Small Groups in March. A number of people have completed the leader
training workshop. Several people have agreed to lead a small group. Their initial leadership involves
inviting people to join them in a small group.
Our goal is to invite everyone to participate. If you would like to participate in a small group and have
not been invited yet, please call the Church office (392-8761) or Jim Lee (392-8275) and we will have
someone contact you.
When group leaders are sufficiently organized, we will post information so people can contact a group
leader if they would like to join that group.
At the beginning we are emphasizing three activities during a small group meeting. They are worship or
devotions, discipleship, and fellowship. We hope that ministry and outward focus will develop naturally
as the groups gain experience. Some groups may identify one of these activities earlier.
We are providing a six session study of the "Three Simple Rules" of John Wesley for groups to use for
the initial discipleship activity. We expect small groups to start meeting early in March and complete
the initial study by May or June. Then they will have the option of taking a recess for the Summer,
continuing to meet, moving to another group, or leaving the group. If groups take a recess for the
Summer, we would expect that they would resume in September. People would also have the option of
joining a group if they have not been involved or forming a new group. We will provide another
suggestion for discipleship study.

HUMC PRAYER CHAIN
Some of the HUMC Family may be unaware that there is a long-standing
Prayer Chain comprised currently of 13people who lovingly pray for those for
whom a request is made. The only way to be on the Prayer Chain list for
prayer is by personal request.
Most recently it was determined that word of special prayer needs was sent
more quickly and accurately via E-mail, rather than by telephone as was done
for many years. For that reason requests may be sent to Carolyn Rickman
either by phone (392-9784) or E-mail ([email protected]). The request will then be sent to
other links in the Chain as quickly as possible.
This Prayer Chain functions separately from the HUMC face-book prayer entries and, once again,
it is only upon request. It is also separate from the Prayer Group that meets faithfully each
Monday morning to pray and send messages to those who need encouragement.
There can never be too many prayers going up. Thank you to all who so willingly lift up the needs
of our congregation to our Heavenly Father.
