The best bit is from the top of “Mike’s Mount”, down through the double apex to the tight right hander. Some compared this section to Lukey Heights down to MG at Phillip Island. Others said The Dipper at Bathurst, except right not left. One well travelled rider with Australian wide track experience thought it was the best non-GP circuit in Australia! The club has acquired another side by side 4-wheeler & Steve Crane and his son-in-law are building another trailer. This one will have high sides, so a rider can sit on his bike and will save recovery time with not having to tie the bikes down. We will have two front wheel chocks fitted, supplied by our COC Craig Tressider thru Kaneg. Old Bike Australasia issue No. 80 will have our full-page advertisement for the Nationals and an article on the current track records. Our first meeting on the long track had a few teething troubles - instead of 3 x 4 lap races totalling 12 laps, we had a 4 and a 6-lap race (10 laps altogether - a loss of 2 laps). Raymond Shaw, our par excellence time keeper had a running sheet with green flag to green flag times. This enabled us to see where we wasted time, so this will be adjusted for the June meeting. Our Junior U/16 riders will be competing in their second leg of the State Titles sponsored by Banham’s. Their first State Titles were on the Wanneroo International Kart Track, which was unfortunately cut short by rain. We have suggested to our volunteers that they gain their Official Level 1 credentials, and they are flying through the test! This will only add to their experience for on the track. See you at the club meeting or at the track. Bob

May 2019 Newsletter

President’s Preamble

A quick survey of our most experienced riders as to their thoughts on the track

resurfacing and extension gave us the same answer of “we love it!”. The best

bit is from the top of “Mike’s Mount”, down through the double apex to the tight

right hander. Some compared this section to Lukey Heights down to MG at

Phillip Island. Others said The Dipper at Bathurst, except right not left. One well

travelled rider with Australian wide track experience thought it was the best

non-GP circuit in Australia!

The club has acquired another side by side 4-wheeler & Steve Crane and his

son-in-law are building another trailer. This one will have high sides,

so a rider can sit on his bike and will save recovery time with not having to tie

the bikes down. We will have two front wheel chocks fitted, supplied

by our COC Craig Tressider thru Kaneg.

Old Bike Australasia issue No. 80 will have our full-page advertisement for the

Nationals and an article on the current track records.

Our first meeting on the long track had a few teething troubles - instead of 3 x 4

lap races totalling 12 laps, we had a 4 and a 6-lap race (10 laps

altogether - a loss of 2 laps). Raymond Shaw, our par excellence time keeper

had a running sheet with green flag to green flag times. This enabled us to

see where we wasted time, so this will be adjusted for the June meeting.

Our Junior U/16 riders will be competing in their second leg of the State Titles

sponsored by Banham’s. Their first State Titles were on the Wanneroo

International Kart Track, which was unfortunately cut short by rain.

We have suggested to our volunteers that they gain their Official Level 1

credentials, and they are flying through the test! This will only add to their

experience for on the track.

See you at the club meeting or at the track.

HCMC Riders Club

How often do we hear gratitude and thanks given to our volunteers during speeches

by riders at the end of a race day or at a presentation night? Every time, which is

the way it should be, but can we do more?

We invite you to join the HCMC Riders Club. The aim of this group is to enable

riders the opportunity to give thanks to our wonderful volunteers that make it

possible to race our Historic machines. These volunteers are the people that take

up positions in flag boxes, recovery vehicles, the race grid, in the race tower and all

sorts of tasks. Most of our volunteers aren’t even members of the club.

Rory Reibel, Michelle Gapes and Rob Fry have taken on the task of raising funds to

give our volunteers some extra benefits above what the club currently fund. Some

of benefits may include a ticket to attend the end of year presentation dinner and

pay for their associate membership with the club. As everyone knows there is a lot

of work to be done on race day and our volunteers are absolutely essential, without

them we don’t ride! We also need to increase the number of helpers to cover the

long track with an extra recovery team and 5 extra flag points.

We don’t want to pester riders for fundraising every time we see them, but we may

hold the occasional raffle, auction a special signed Team WA shirt, have a bar at the

end of race day presentations. The most effective and quick way to generate the

funds needed for the riders club is to ask for a voluntary donation of $20 (or more if

you are generous) to become a member of the “Riders Club”.

As a member you can proudly display a sticker to show your support of our

volunteers and flaggies!

If you can catch up with one of us at the track over the tuning/race weekends we’ll

gladly hand out our 2019 “HCMC Riders Club” stickers and receive your donation.
