HISTORY IN SPORTS, CRIME, DRAMA FILMS
Gang, Crime Violence
Crime and Gang Films are developed around the sinister actions of criminals or gangsters,
normally bank robbers or overall law breakers that operate outside the law, stealing and
violently murdering their way through life. In the 1940s, a new type of crime thriller
emerged, more dark than usual. Criminal and gangster films are often categorized as post-war
film or detective-mystery films – or hooligan films because of underlying similarities between
these cinematic forms.

Crime Films
Crime films are arguably the most complex type/genre of movies that reflect our moral order and justice. Crime films mirror society
because of its contrast of real live events that satisfy the audience’s desire for mayhem, underdog characters, and violence. The
alternative type, for the most part, focuses on this aspect of the film; while traditional
movies tend to emphasize heroism and the restoration of moral order.
History Of Crime Films
During the 1950s to the 1970s, several new genres emerged that included the courtroom drama, police genre, slasher, and serial killer and psycho genre.
Hollywood to respond by targeting the pop culture of the youth with new and brighter thrillers, better Technicolor and widescreen television. The prison genre also made an impact during the early 1930s with the onset of movies such as The
Big House and I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang. The stock prison films are usually centered on the convicts, a harsh warden and a young hero who tries to escape. It often provides one with the theme of hope versus despair. The Alternative tradition of prison films, however, tends to emphasize the brutalities of prison life. American Me, for example, portrayed explicit sodomy, gang related activities and drug trades.
There was an increase of ethnic diversity among the characters in the film. Such diversity enables the audience of different ethnic groups in the U.S. to relate to the
experiences of the characters. In contrast to traditional prison films, alternative tradition recognizes and accepts despair and provides no reform.
How Gang/Crime Films Have And Will Inspire Us
Gang/Crime films will inspire us because they will give us an indicator of the maturity of how our film will come out. They have inspired whilst writing the script because it helped us decide
what sort of settings and characters are in them which we can link to the film script we have
created.
