  2. 2. The music video? Over the past 100 years technology and the development of moving picture has created an extreme influx of interest into the industry. It has created millions of jobs. It has expanded the opportunities for creativity in music massively. It has developed all aspects of the music industry.
  3. 3. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers Massive stage stars but was a bit too old for the arrival of film. The movement of bringing big stars and musicals into films. (1935)
  4. 4. Gene Kelly Singin in the rain This might be one of the most iconic musicals to date. It focuses on dramatic context. It was the peak of musical films and created huge stars out of singing and dancing. (1952)
  5. 5. Elvis Presley Elvis Presley was the leader of the explosion of rock and roll, youth culture and the idea of the teen. Young people could easily identify to him and it created a sense of belonging to them. It was also able to make black music mainstream.
  6. 6. Ready steady go! Live performances in order to sell the band- usually miming. Dedicated specifically to music. Record companies started to see the potential in the commodification of a bands image for tv. As they were miming it gave the illusion of a performance. It was broadcast from August 1963 until December 1966. (itv) Artists mimed to records but by late 1964 some performed live and the show switched to all live performances in April 1965.
  7. 7. Influential stars- David Bowie David Bowie. David Bowie was best known for being so different to any artists of that era. He created alternative characters to represent his music and individual style. (E.g. Ziggy Stardust)
  8. 8. Lady Gaga Lady Gaga is one of music's most recent pop stars. However she is so alternative and unique that she has become one of the most famous stars for creating an art form through her music. Her music videos are high definition and present narrative. They also use choreographed sequences and creative costumes, hair and make up.
