CONSTRUCTION:

1 Using the Paganini pattern, version 2, as a guide, make 13 blocks (instead of 16). To do this, you will need 52 green 5" squares and 104 squares of background fabric. When sewing thegreen half square triangles, use a scant 1/4" seam allowance. This should allow you to trimeach half square triangle to 4-1/2" rather than 4" as stated in the Paganini pattern. If someof your half square triangles are too small, trim all to 4-1/4" and adjust the measurements forsashing accordingly (deduct 1/2" from length). Once the blocks are made, set them aside andcontinue with sashing as described below.

2. For each of the 36 sashing pieces, sew gold“star points” on both ends:

3. Lay out, on a design wall, large table, or floor, the blocks and sashing pieces “on point”–see photo of quilt.Where sashing pieces meet between blocks, insert a 2-1/2" gold square to form stars.

The top, middle, and bottom “rows” of wreaths each have three wreaths; the rows in betweenhave two wreaths. In other words, set the wreaths 3, 2, 3, 2, 3 for a total of 13 wreath blocks.

4. Fill in the “blank” spaces in the top, bottom, and sides with the eight setting triangles; fill inthe corners with the four corner triangles (these were cut from background fabrics).

5. Sew together blocks, sashing, and setting and corner triangles. Press. Trim edges of quiltblocks so you have a straight, even line, cutting through centers of stars.

6. Add inner, center, and outer borders.

7. Cut bows from wool using freezer paper pieces traced from bow pattern. These can beappliqued by hand using a blanket stitch or sewed on by machine at the time the quilt isquilted.

8. After quilting, add button “berries” by hand.

Have fun with this pattern and Happy Holidays!
