The Beebe family was a great supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory. This space was used for parties and concerts and the Beebes often invited young musicians to perform for their guests.

The Ballroom & Holiday Gift GalleryDecorator: Jan Youlden

The crown molding, fireplace mantels and corner cabinet were all added during a 1913 renovation. The French doors were installed in 1950. The Moorish tiles on the east side of the room (near the Museum Room) are original. The west fireplace tiles are new, but produced by the original factory.

The stairway, added to conform to building codes, leads to the third floor where Highfield Hall’s offices are located. One office has the only remaining ocean view.

The crown molding in this room was recently stripped to expose the original wood. When the mansion was built, most of the woodwork would not have been painted.

Originally a bedroom, the library was hand crafted in 2013 to house a lovely collection of books for visitors to enjoy.

The tiles in this room were lost, but have been replaced by hand painted copies of the originals. This large space was once two bedrooms.

The Holidays at Highfield Hall - It’s All in the Details!Highfield Hall was built in 1878 as the summer home of the Beebe family of Boston. It is believed to have been designed by Boston architects Peabody and Stearns and it remains one of the few examples of Stick-style Queen Anne architecture in the Northeast. Park-like gardens, carriage trails, and almost 700 acres of woodlands originally surrounded the mansion. Enjoy your visit and thank you for celebrating the holidays at Highfield Hall!

Special Thanks… to decorators Paula Taylor, Patti Ricardelli and Cynthia Rose; Volunteer coordinator: Sally Byrne; Gift Gallery committee: Marilyn Prindle, Jean Wentzell, Jeanne Lohnes, Joanne Scudder; Tea Shoppe coordinators: Joyce Williams and Judy Leavitt; Santa’s helpers: Doug Jones and Gerry Saunders; Gail Blakely and the kitchen elves; pianist Judy Risch; Turning Pointe Dance Studio greeters, and the many other dedicated Highfield Hall & Gardens volunteers who make this event possible.
