The water, symbol of the festival, is the processof cleaning and purification, while the celebrations welcoming the start of the newcalendar year in Thailand.During Songkran, the community spirit is reflected in activities such as cleaning thetemple, presenting offerings to monks, rituals in which they are washed statues andimages of Buddha as a sign of respect."The Songkran Festival 2011 edition is very special because it will be an opportunityto celebrate the 84th birthday of His Majesty the King.
