On Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, Christians go to church to celebrate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem to face suffering and death. Jesus was carried on a donkey into Jerusalem with the crowds of people waving their palm branches and shouting: “Hosanna! Praise God! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna! Praise God!” The people gather outside the church as the palms are blessed and distributed to everyone. The story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is read from Scripture. Then the procession of people walks into the church, holding up palm crosses or green branches and singing hosannas. The palms are twisted into the shape of a cross so that when they are taken home and displayed everyone will be reminded that the days of Holy Week lead up to the celebration of Good Friday when Jesus died on a cross.

HOLY WEEK

For the Church, the ‘greatest week’ is Holy Week during which

the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus is remembered in

special celebrations.

On Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, Christians go

to church to celebrate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem to face

suffering and death.

Jesus was carried on a donkey into Jerusalem with the crowds

of people waving their palm branches and shouting: “Hosanna!

Praise God! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna! Praise God!”

The people gather outside the church as the palms are blessed

and distributed to everyone.

The story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is read from Scripture.

Then the procession of people walks into the church, holding

up palm crosses or green branches and singing hosannas.

The palms are twisted into the shape of a cross so that when

they are taken home and displayed everyone will be reminded that the days of Holy Week

lead up to the celebration of Good

Friday when Jesus died on a cross.
