EVER THOUGHT OF BEING A PRIEST? God may be calling you right now to serve Him by being a priest for the Diocese of Springfield. If you may be interested, call Fr. Joe at 423-6223. He’d be happy to guide you in your discernment. Let us continue to pray for more priestly vocations, especially from Holy Family Parish!

DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: Welcome to RESPECT LIFE month. This Sunday, Oct. 4th, is RESPECT LIFE SUNDAY! How appropriate that it falls on the 4th, which is the annual Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, a Saint who respected ALL of God’s creation. This is a month to call to mind how we as Catholics can promote & respect one of the most precious gifts given to us—LIFE itself. Life is such a wonderful example of the love of God. God did not have to give us life, but He did. And our responsibility is to show Him in return that we respect ALL LIFE & care for it to the best of our ability. Are we people who truly & sincerely respect ALL GOD-GIVEN LIFE IN ALL FORMS AT ALL TIMES? We are challenged to have a consistent & all-encompassing stance of being PRO-LIFE. To be LIFE-GIVERS & LIFE-PROMOTERS. Life in the womb is not life that is to be aborted. Our laws in this country should reflect that, but they don’t at this time. What a stain on our country which was founded on Judeo-Christian values. As to abortion, I want to share a reflection on an ad I saw on a cable channel recently. The ad said that “all lives will not matter until black lives matter.” I propose we add a sequel to that ad, saying that “all lives will not matter until all lives in the womb matter.” I wonder if that type of ad would even be allowed. If it wouldn’t, what have we come to in this country? Let us use this month to call ourselves to be life-givers to all peoples & in every situation. May we pray for those contemplating abortions, those babies aborted, those who abort them. May we pray for those condemned to die & those who carry out the death penalty. May we pray for those who die from euthanasia & those who promote it. May we pray for those who die from starvation & war each day. May we pray for those killed because of their faith & for those who kill them. This Sunday we need YOU to come for just ONE HOUR to show your respect for life as we once again have the LIFE CHAIN event along Eldorado Street in front of St. Pat’s church & rectory. For 60 minutes, 2:30-3:30 p.m., let us gather to show our commitment to LIFE.

YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE `

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION—My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP—-LIVING LIFE AS GOD INTENDED!!!

YES, IT’S ADULT FAITH FORMATION TIME! Even though we are in the midst of the pandemic, there is enough interest to form an in-person afternoon and evening class for the month of October. Because there was very little interest in hosting the class through Zoom, that option will not be available. Wearing of masks and social distancing will be expected. There will be four sessions entitled: The Pivotal Players, Fulton J. Sheen, the Communicator & Flannery O’Connor, the Storyteller. Bishop Robert Barron will guide us through a journey that will focus on the lasting influence of these pivotal players. Register today! Workbooks - $15. Please contact Sr. Janet for further information: janet.pfile @comcast.net or 423-0240.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

God, our Creator, Life is Your gift to me. Through Baptism, You invite me to share the gift of my life in service to others. I ask LORD, "Who will be Your Priest, Deacon, Brother, Sis-ter, Missionary, Lay Minister? Is it I?" Give me the courage and generosity to re-spond to Your love, to Your call. Give those you have called to the married and the single state the graces their lives require. I pray especially for those who serve You as Religious. Keep them close to You. This we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR RACE RELATIONS----Jesus, our brother, You revealed God through Your wise words and loving deeds, and we en-counter You still today in the faces of those whom society has pushed to the margins. Guide us, through the love You revealed, to establish the justice You proclaimed, that all peoples might dwell in har-mony and peace, united by that one love that binds us to each other, and to You. AMEN.
