PARISH EVENTS & NEWS – THIS WEEK

LETTER FROM FR. TOM: This past week, I was on

retreat. Many people do not know that a priest must make

at least one five-day retreat each year. Originally, my

retreat was set for June. All of the priests in the Diocese

were scheduled to go on retreat together, but that was can-

celled due to Covid-19. The Bishop then encouraged each

of us to make a retreat at another time during the year.

Normally, I would now explain to you what happened

during my retreat and all of the things that I did. Since I am

actually writing this article before I leave for my retreat, I

will simply share my plans with you. My first struggle was

to find a place to go, since most of the retreat houses are

closed due to the pandemic. I decided to go to Door

County. I will take along my bible, my breviary, my rosary

and my journal. My plan is to spend time each day praying,

but I also want to go hiking and spend time in nature,

walking through the woods and fields. I have explored

some of the possible hiking trails online. Praying and being

in nature go very well together. I discovered this when I

was young and spent more time hunting and fishing.

Priests are required to go on retreat, but I also

remember my parents going on retreat quite often. My

mom went to Monte Alverno in Appleton. It was always a

silent retreat. She would laugh as she told stories about

sneaking into the cemetery so that she could talk. I

couldn’t see my mom being quiet for five whole days!

Monte Alverno no longer exists as a retreat house, but

there are other places you could go like the Jesuit Retreat

House in Oshkosh, or you could just head up north with the

intention to pray and spend time with your friend, Jesus.

As you read this, I will have just returned from the retreat.

Ask me how it went and I will let you know if things worked

out as planned! Peace, Fr. Tom Pomeroy

The month of October is “RESPECT LIFE MONTH” and

the Christian Concerns Committee is again sponsoring the

“Change for Life Campaign.” Empty baby bottles are

available in the narthex. Please take a bottle and fill it with

loose change or cash and return it to the parish office by

the end of October. Proceeds will go to the following: WI

Right to Life – Calumet County, Gathering Place (in

Reedsville), and the college “Care About You” packages.

    NEWS & EVENTS

    IN SYMPATHY – We remember:

Gerald Sloma (member of Holy Family Parish) who

died October 9, husband to Sarah Sloma, brother to

Patricia Schuh and John (Carol) Sloma.

Melva Riemer who died October 9, mother to Nancy

    (Gary) Kabat.

Wesley Kupsky who died October 12, father to

    Richard (Nancy) Kupsky.

Mary Ann (Schmidt) who died October, 2020, sister

    to Eugene Schmidt.

Lorraine Evel who died October 18, mother to Mark

    (Bonnie) Evel.

Please keep Gerald, Melva, Wesley, Mary Ann, Lorraine,

and their families in your prayers. May they rest in peace.

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.”

SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND is for our

Capital Improvement fund. Please use the envelope in

your envelope packet and put it in the basket when you

come to Mass on the weekend or drop it off at church

during business hours, mail it to church, or donate online.

    Thank you for your support.

    OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

MONTH: “Domestic violence shelters are financially

hurting. Major fundraisers had to be cancelled. Service

needs have increased and many had extra expenses due

to sheltering victims in hotel rooms to meet social

distancing requirements.” Through the Holy Family

Christian Mothers and Ladies Sodality annual Let’s Lick

Family Violence project, we can help! We have provided a

donation jar along with a display in the narthex for your

extra change. It is needed more than ever! Please

    consider helping us, helping them.

DID YOU KNOW? Domestic Violence is a learned

behavior that increases in frequency and severity.

ROSARY IN OCTOBER! A parishioner will be leading the

Rosary before all Friday Masses during the month of

October; one half hour before Mass begins. Please join us

in this devotion to Mary during this time.

fair has something for everyone! More information to

    come in next week’s bulletin!

    EVENTS OUTSIDE OUR PARISH

A NIGHT OF HOPE: Join Bishop David L. Ricken for a

virtual night of hope where we will pray together and ask for

the Lord’s guidance in our lives so that we can continue to

live in hope. All are welcome to participate on Monday,

October 26 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. For more information and

    to register, please visit www.gbdioc.org/hope.

ST. GREGORY PARISH will be hosting their 65th Annual

Fall Festival on Sunday, November 1 as a Broasted

Chicken & Ham Drive Thru Dinner from 10:30 - 12:30.

Parish is located at 214 Church St. in St. Nazianz.

RONCALLI CATHOLIC SCHOOLS have openings for

substitute teachers for 2020-2021. Requirements are to

become VIRTUS trained, pass a background check, and

have a bachelor's degree. If interested, contact any of the

Roncalli Catholic School principals (Adrienne Lundy,

elementary, Steve Thiele, middle or Fran Peter, high

    school) at [email protected] or

send a resume to Roncalli Catholic Schools, 2000 Mirro

Drive, Manitowoc WI 54220. Thank you for your

    consideration.

    SCRIP NEWS OF THE WEEK:

Trick-or-Treat! Use Scrip to “scare” up some deals on

    last minute costumes and candy!

Scrip is available at the parish office Monday – Friday,

at Collins State Bank – Brillion, after Mass on Sundays

    and online at www.shopwithscrip.com.

ADORATION & BENEDICTION: On Tuesday, November

of our Eucharistic Lord. Exposition of the Blessed

Sacrament will take place following the 8:30 AM Mass,

throughout the day until 8:30 PM where there will be

Benediction. Because someone needs to be present at all

times, there is a signup sheet in the narthex with one-hour

durations. Please sign up if you are able.

PUMPKINS AND GOURDS: If you have extra pumpkins or

gourds, the Worship Committee would love to incorporate

them into the fall décor in church and the narthex. Please

contact Julie Rohan, if you are able to donate.

BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE: During the month of

    November, the Book of Remembrance

is placed in the narthex. All are invited

to enter the names of loved ones and

friends who have died. Names entered

    meet our neighbor’s need.

    STEWARDSHIP: SHARING GOD’S GIFTS:

one and despise the other.” (Luke 16:13)

No bazaar this year, but we still have our raffle! The
