Do you like hot wings? Are you picky? If you answered yes, keep reading, because some of the tastiest hot wings in San Diego are at Pillbox Tavern in Solana Beach. Pillbox boasts oodles of hot wing flavors, and although I only sampled 3 varieties, I’m quite certain I found the holy grail of hot wings. And her name? I would have never guessed it…

MAPLE BOURBON BACON: This mild wing is infused with pure maple syrup, bacon and bourbon.

A+ wings, hands down! As for their extensive flavors… *drumroll*

SWEET FLAME, BUFFALO, HONEY TERIYAKI, SWEET CHILI, SRIRACHA RANCH, GANGNAM STYLE, DANTE’S INFERNO, THAI, HABANERO BBQ, LEMON PEPPER, OLD BAY, JERK, & SHELLY’S BBQ!

Sweet Flame is a “Honey Mustard meets Sriracha” hot wing, which was extremely slippery and delicious. Also tried and

digged Buffalo. But Sweet Flame and Maple Bourbon Bacon were grand slams to the taste buds. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Although Pillbox Tavern has great beer on tap, these wings were washed down with a mellow hard apple cider. Couldn’t help but order Shelly’s special of the day, a pulled chicken BBQ sandwich, that did not disappoint. So many flavors in this sandwich! I now must try more of their famous Solana Beach sandwiches!
