INVITE SOMEONE BACK TO CHURCH!!

DEAR PARISHIONERS: We have such a BIG blessing at Holy Family Par-ish. Do you know what it is? It is HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!!!!! Yes, our school. We have been blessed with the pres-ence of our Catholic grade school since 1961. The Do-minican Sisters & lay teachers have graced our class-rooms, providing quality faith & academic excellence. Many our parishioners & many people beyond the Deca-tur area can say they attended/graduated from Holy Fam-ily. And we have the graduation pictures lining the walls of our halls to prove it! This year is another exciting one for us. We have some new faces as teachers & new faces as students. We are glad they have chosen HFCS! This weekend at the Sunday 10 a.m. Mass is our an-nual Opening School Mass. One of the great benefits of being a Catholic School is that we can begin & end in the greatest & most meaningful way possible---by celebrat-ing the Eucharist, our Lord’s gift & blessing to us for all time. I hope you all know that we are truly blessed with a wonderful principal, Debbie Alexander, & Colleen Richardson, who assists with school operations, along with the school secretary, Lisa Roddis. Those three in particular are the backbone of our school. And let’s not forget our faculty. I challenge you to find a more dedicated, professional, & giving team of teachers & staff. Your children are in very good hands. Also, our students are just the best. We are so fortu-nate to have wonderful young people. Thanks, parents, for making the sacrifices for your exceptional children to be in our school. Let us all be the best ambassadors for our school that we can be. Let us not keep the many, many plusses of HFCS to ourselves! The world is waiting to hear & see them!!! I am so proud to be the pastor of Holy Family Parish! It is an honor to be associated with our school---none better in my opinion. It is a place where the Catholic way of life is envisioned & lived out. May it continue to be that way this coming year & every year. YOUR CATHOLIC EDUCATED PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. This coming Monday, Aug. 15th, is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. Since this Holy Day falls on a Monday this year, it is NOT a Holy Day of obli-gation. You are still encouraged to come to Mass at 7:30 a.m. & cele-brate this tenet of our Catholic faith!

YEAR OF MERCY CONFESSIONS Mon., Aug. 15th, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Wed., Aug. 17th, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTION FOR August 13/14

We are not alone. In this great mercy work, we are not alone. The Letter to the Hebrews (12:1-4) de-clares we can run the race, we can live the Christian life, we can keep our eyes fixed on Jesus because we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses. We are not alone. We who eat and drink Christ’s Blood and Body are “conformed to his image on earth” in order to not only look like him but also be like him.

• Who is lonely, cut off, alone, and needs my visit? • Who can I surround with my witness and com-

fort?

SCHOOL PHYSICALS: State law requires all students entering Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grades to have a com-plete physical exam and necessary immunizations prior to entering school. Please make an appointment with your student’s physician soon in order to have the forms com-pleted for the start of the school year.

ADORATION on Thursdays at Holy Family will resume in September!
