The Caroline Foundation was set-up in memory of Caroline Dwyer-Hickey who was diagnosed with cancer when she was 26 years old.

Caroline was a patient of Prof. John Crown and became a pioneer for cancer research when she was among the first people here to participate in some drug trials through the Cancer Clinical Research Trust. This treatment not only extended her life but it increased her sense of well-being during those precious extra years.

Caroline was a teacher, an amateur actor and an intrepid traveller. She was also a wife, a daughter and a sister. She was an advocate for cancer research and the importance of clinical trials in developing new ways to treat cancer.

Caroline passed away in 2013, nine years after she was first diagnosed.

Last year the choir performed the world premiere of Mary Gordon, an oratorio composed by Brian Irvine and Neil Martin with a libretto by Marina Carr, in collaboration with the Wicklow Choral Society and other Wicklow choirs, and the National Symphony Orchestra. On 9 February of 2019, BCS, again in collaboration with their Wicklow counterpart, is going to perform the Irish premiere of Howard Goodall’s new choral work Invictus: A Passion, which looks at the story of the passion from the perspective of (mainly) female writers from the 17th to the 20th century.

The choir has travelled within Ireland and abroad to Austria (Vienna and Salzburg), Germany (Würzburg) and Belgium (Ypres, Louvain).

Our EthosThe Caroline Foundation is driven by a volunteer ethos. 100% of monies raised go directly into cancer research. We have no fees, no expenses and no administration costs.

How Your Money Will Be SpentThe Caroline Foundation supports the work of the Cancer Clinical Research Trust (CCRT) which is

dedicated to developing revolutionary new treatments for cancer. Under the leadership of Prof John Crown, the cancer research programme is based throughout a number of leading institutions in Dublin.

The money you donate to Give Us A Song! will go directly into The Caroline Foundation Fellowship for cancer researchers on the CCRT team. The CCRT is part of a global cancer research network which has made many significant breakthroughs to improve the outcome for patients with many types of cancer.

Cheile Community Choir is based in Fassaroe, Little Bray, County Wicklow. The choir was set up in March 2016 with a mission to include everyone. There were no auditions, no strict rules about being able to read music, Tony Norton our director teaches passionately and patiently the craft of singing and has the ability to bring the best out in all through confidence building.

The idea for the Choir developed because people in the community had a need to step into a celebration mode and lift the hearts of their community. And why not, this community has weathered all the storms of recessions, shared the pain of communities throughout Ireland who were hit by social problems created because of lack of jobs for their youth and tolerated consistent funding cuts and has experienced deep tragedies over recent years .

Serendipity is an award-winning Women’s Barbershop Chorus of up to 50 singers, based in Bray Co. Wicklow. Barbershop is four-part harmony singing ‘a cappella’ or unaccompanied by instruments. Serendipity sings a range of music from upbeat, to swing and jazz to ballads and modern and has entertained many audiences across Dublin and Wicklow at private, charity, and corporate events. The chorus’s 50 members come from all walks of life and have a range of musical histories, but they all share a love for singing in harmony.

A bunch of ukulele troubadours who play for fun in The Harbour Bar Bray every Tuesday evening. The ukulele has become the instrument of choice for schools over the recorder and there are as many ukuleles sold every day as guitars worldwide.

The Hotspot Ukes were formed in Greystones after Pat Byrne offered a free introductory lesson – and the group went on to arrange Irish rock legends The Stunning’s hit record “Brewing Up A Storm.” Their version attracted worldwide attention with almost 6,000 hits on Youtube with proceeds going to Five Loaves charity and out of this group The Harbour Ukuleles was born! After recording Loudon Wainrights’ “Swimming Song” to which Loudon was to say “Best Cover Ever”, the accompanying video got over 30,000 hits on Youtube.
