Design Phase• Group Meetings First meeting is to brainstorm and throw our theme ideas.

Homework: Think of a scene for the theme.

• Worry about cost later Don’t restrict an idea based on cost yet.

• Design around what you have Not what you need. If you can’t easily get a ‘57 Hearse don’t form a scene around it.

Only form the basic scene idea around something you can easily get(for free) or cheaply make or buy.

• Assign JobsAsk for volunteers to head up stuff; marketing, building, make-up etc. Assign people to scenes instead of everyone working on everything. Then always be available to float around to help.

Planning Phase• Map out your space • Figure out good meeting times for

everyone(or as many as possible) and don’t have too many, once every 2 months is fine until August.

• Stick to your plan once it’s set, which should be by May.

• Get a good feel for the best times to work on the haunt as well. Work parties are the best!!

• Flow of Traffic: Think and walk out how people will go through the haunt. We use the alternate effect, look left…walk…look right…walk..look left.. Etc.

Vintage Ritter dentist chair (SE Portland)

This chair is a lovely piece of design. It makes for comfy porch sitting and great conversations with your neighbors (or maybe a tattoo artist could make professional use of it). This beauty is a Ritter dentist chair, probably from sometime in the late 1920s. Similar chairs are being offered on ebay for $650. This one has a little rust on the chrome from being on the porch in Portland winters, though all the levers and adjustments still work. The base is filled with hydraulic fluid, which makes it very heavy to move - bring a truck and at least three strong backs! Must be gone by May 18!

Wooden Coffin Prop--Free to a Good Haunted Home! (Hollywood District)

We're trying to find a new haunted spot for a large wooden coffin, once used for haunted house activities in a former life.

This spacious crate of the crypt features a carpeted interior for maximum comfort and style, as well as exterior bar handles for easy transport from one spooky location to the next.

If you can haul it, you can have it!

Please respond to this post via email if you're interested in getting your hands on this must-have haunted house accessory.

Building Tips & Tricks

• Pallet Walls: - Use 4x4 pallets to create walls that are sturdy and can look creepy with ease.

-Plans on separate hand-out

• Paint Sprayer:– Harbor freight sells a cheap electric one. – For large walls and exterior painting, this is a must and you can customize the look.

• Make walls and roofs first, if you have outdoor haunt: – Slope the roof if possible or use plastic sheeting– Dry area to work in

• Use Your own stuff:– Use stuff from your own house, friends, and family to fill the haunt and surroundings.

Building Tips cont.• Outlets daisy-chained to ext. cord

– Use 14ga ext cord & outdoor outlets or covers– Mount outlets on wood stakes or near the bottom of scene walls

• Fluorescent starters = Flickering light

– Use FS-2 starters (found at HD, Freds, Kmart, Walmart)

– Wire them inline with the cord or with a 5amp fuse holder.

• Get or use a miter saw!!– Biggest time saver I know of. Check
