Dear Parishioners and Friends of Corpus Christi, Our parish continues to flourish because of the joy-filled and spirit- filled love that has been so beautifully lived by you and others. Faith- filled and dedicated people like you have responded to God’s love by supporting his work in our parish over the past 60 years.

St. Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians, reminds us: “You are God’s building. Thanks to the favor God showed me I laid a foundation as a wise master-builder might do, and now someone else is building upon it. For the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple.” Inspired by St. Paul, God’s work now calls us to lay a strong foundation for the future of our parish community, and gives us an opportunity to become part of something that will have a positive impact not only in our parish, but in Willowbend and all of the Southwest Houston area.

Now is an exciting time for Corpus Christi as we continue our journey, building upon the faith of all those who came before us. As we begin our Capital Campaign Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future, we are now called to the same commitment and willingness our founding families witnessed by working tirelessly for the greater glory and honor of God.

In this brochure you will read about the plans for repair, renovation and expansion of our church and eventually, our parish campus. This endeavor is much more than simply a building project; it is an essential part of the parish’s mission to nurture the growth of all through worship, education and service.

I invite you to join with me as we enter the next chapter of our parish journey. Your support of this campaign is vital, as this project cannot happen without the participation of each person in the parish. This is a great challenge and will entail sacrifices from all of us. Beginning in 2012, the leadership of Corpus Christi noticed that the parish was beginning to face certain challenges around the campus. The parish sought counsel from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, where the Office of Construction & Preventive Maintenance suggested that Corpus Christi engage in a Master Plan study for the needs of the next decade, rather than solely focusing on a singular issue such as parking.

The parish engaged the services of a local architectural firm to conduct the Master Plan Study. The architect met and interviewed numerous ministry leaders and staff; along with taking an in-depth tour with measurements of the entire campus. The report from the architect contained suggestions to improve almost every building on the campus, including parking and sewer lines, all of which would be addressed in a phased approach based upon current needs and capacity to fund the projects.

Once the Master Plan study was completed in 2013; however, things around the parish began to change. With a new pastor for the parish and a new principal for the school, it was suggested that the parish wait on implementing the Master Plan until a later time.

As Corpus Christi prepared to take up the Master Plan again, another setback occurred in the form of Hurricane Harvey. The storm affected our area and our parishioners dramatically. The Master Plan was put on hold until the time was right to explore its continuation. In the spring of 2019, a new Planning Study was conducted to determine current needs. As we enter Fall 2019, the time has come for Corpus Christi to move forward.

Based upon the results of the interviews during the Master Plan Study in 2012, the counsel of the archdiocese and the results of the Planning Study conducted in the Spring of 2019, it was determined that a renovation and expansion of the church would be the proper first phase of the Master Plan.

OUR CHALLENGEPhase OneNarthex ExpansionA new Narthex will be constructed with an entrance that will be more inviting and have a larger, brighter gathering space. The Narthex will be large enough to have an "overflow" seating capacity of over 100 chairs and feature an all glass entrance to the main body of the church to utilize natural lighting.

Sanctuary and Adoration ChapelBeyond the Narthex will be the new entrance into the Nave (the church proper) and a new indoor Baptismal Font.

The sanctuary will be moved back toward the stained glass and a glass divider will be put in place to have a separate, formal Adoration Chapel established. The Chapel will have a seating capacity of approximately 20 people and will have a separate, secured entry in the Southeast corner of the building for Adoration.

Nave RenovationThe church bathrooms will be expanded. The body of the church will also include updates with new pews, as well as, the removal of 'the arrow' which will be a part of updating the church's lighting and sound system. New storage spaces for the liturgical ministries will also be created.

ParkingNew parking in the front lot will be added for those coming to Adoration.

New Roof, Landscaping and Updates to Church to bring it up to CodeThese items finish out Phase One. The timeline for work is estimated to take 12 months.

If the campaign’s financial success reaches beyond the cost of the items, the parish may look to begin preparation for Phase 2 with the purchase of temporary buildings to replace the school’s administration and library, as these buildings will be reconstructed in later phases.

The second part of our challenge is our contributionto the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign. A capital campaign to meet diocesan-wide needs was in the planning stages when the Archdiocese was impacted by Hurricane Harvey. In the aftermath of such destruction, the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign was put on hold. When damage was reported by various parishes, the needs of the Archdiocese were redefined. In late 2018, the Archdiocese decided to move forward with its capital campaign in order to address the new realities of the Archdiocese as well as future needs.

Starting in the Fall of 2018 through Spring of 2020, every parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will participate in the IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission Capital Campaign. This very important Archdiocesan-wide campaign will seek to raise $150,000,000 in support of our Archdiocese in the following areas:• Addressing Renovations and Modernization

METHODS OF PLEDGINGPLEDGES VIA CASH OR CHECK | Simply complete your pledge card by selecting the amount of your pledge and down payment (optional, but encouraged). Make sure to select your method of payment, i.e., monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual payments. GIFTS OF STOCK | Donors can use their own broker/agent to transfer stock. If the stock has been held long-term (over one year), the donor does not have to pay capital gains tax on the stock, and is allowed a tax deduction for the full value of the stock. Donors may also choose to sell stock in order to claim a loss, which may be beneficial for tax circumstances. GIFTS FROM RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS | The IRA Charitable Rollover provision of the 2015 PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) Act permits individuals age 70.5 or older to contribute up to $100,000 from a qualifying retirement account directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the charity as income. Federal and state laws on income and inheritance taxes encourage charitable giving. It may be particularly advantageous for some people to contribute stocks, appreciated securities, annuities, property, or other valuables. Everyone is asked to prayerfully consider how their generosity can reflect their gratitude for the gifts that God has given them. Each family is asked to consider a pledge of $4,000 or more, payable over three years. A pledge of $4,000, after a 10% down payment of $400, is $100 per month or $3.29 per day.

We know that a pledge of $4,000 will be a challenge for some of our parish households; therefore, it is vital to the success of our campaign that those with greater financial resources consider a larger sacrifice. Individuals who are financially capable of pledging $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000 or more are asked to step forward and become leaders of our campaign.

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de Corpus Christi, Nuestra parroquia continúa prosperando gracias al espíritu lleno de amor que alegremente viene de nuestra comunidad. Gente llena de fe y dedicación como usted han respondido al amor de Dios apoyando con su trabajo en nuestra parroquia durante los últimos 60 años.

San Pablo en su primera carta a los Corintios nos recuerda: “Porque nosotros somos colaboradores de Dios, y vosotros sois labranza de Dios, edificio de Dios. Conforme a la gracia de Dios que me ha sido dada, yo como perito arquitecto puse el fundamento, y otro edifica encima; pero cada uno mire cómo sobreedifica. Porque el templo de Dios es santo, y eso es lo que vosotros sois.” Inspirados por San Pablo, el trabajo de Dios nos llama hoy a construir el fundamento para el futuro de nuestra comunidad parroquial, dándonos la oportunidad de formar parte de algo que tendrá un impacto positivo, no sólo en nuestra parroquia, pero en Willowbend y la parte suroeste de Houston.

En 2012, el liderazgo parroquial de Corpus Christi comenzó a darse cuenta de los desafíos urgentes que las instalaciones de la parroquia enfrentaban. Después de recibir el consejo de la Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston, la oficina de Construcción y Mantenimiento Preventivo sugirió un estudio parroquial y propuso un plan maestro para satisfacer las necesidades de la próxima década, en lugar de enfocarnos en sólo un problema como el estacionamiento.

El estudio parroquial se completó en 2013, sin embargo, la parroquia comenzó a experimentar varios cambios. Con el nuevo liderazgo de la parroquia y su escuela, se sugirió retrasar la implementación de las fases.

Cuando la parroquia estuvo lista para comenzar con el Plan Maestro sufrimos otro retraso: el Huracán Harvey. NUESTRO DESAFÍOPrimera FaseExpansión del NártexIncluye una nueva entrada al edificio con un espacio de encuentro en frente y una capacidad de 84 personas. Esto servirá como espacio adicional para las misas más populares. El nártex también nos ofrecerá un espacio adicional con control de clima y luz natural para encuentros antes y después de misa.

El Santuario y la Capilla de Adoración Aparte del nártex, renovaremos la entrada a la nave de la iglesia y una nueva fuente bautismal en el interior.

El santuario será trasladado hacia atrás donde se encuentran las vidrieras y se instalará una división de vidrio para poder establecer una capilla de adoración formal. Esta capilla tendrá una capacidad de 20 personas y tendrá una entrada segura y separada en la esquina sureste del edificio de adoración.

Renovación de la NaveSe ampliarán los baños de la iglesia. Se incorporarán cambios al cuerpo de la iglesia, eliminando la “flecha” como parte de las actualizaciones de iluminación y el sistema de sonido; creando espacio de almacenamiento para el ministerio litúrgico.

EstacionamientoEstacionamiento nuevo en frente de la iglesia para aquellos que quieren adorar.

Techo y Paisajismo Nuevo, y Actualizaciones a la Iglesia para Satisfacer los Códigos de Construcción Al completar estos detalles terminaríamos con la primera fase. Se estima que nuestro trabajo durará 12 meses.

Si el éxito de nuestra campaña llega más allá de nuestras metas financieras, la parroquia dará comienzo a la segunda fase comprando edificios temporales para reemplazar la oficina de administración y la biblioteca de la escuela; edificios que serán derribados en las siguientes fases.

La segunda parte de nuestro desafío es la contribución a la campaña capital de la arquidiócesis. MÉTODOS DE PROMESACOMPROMISOS DE PAGO VÍA EFECTIVO O CHEQUE Simplemente llene su tarjeta de compromiso seleccionando la cantidad que se compromete a donar y su pago inicial (opcional, pero recomendado). Asegúrese de elegir su forma de pago; es decir, pagos mensuales, trimestrales, semestrales o anuales. Favor de hacer los cheques a nombre de Corpus Christi. Recordatorios de pagos serán enviados, con el material necesario, según el plan de pago que usted eligió. En cuanto termine de llenar su tarjeta de compromiso la puede devolver a la oficina parroquial, en la colecta semanal o por correo.

DONACIONES DE ACCIONES | Los donantes deben utilizar a su propio corredor/agente de la Bolsa de Valores, en coordinación con la parroquia, para transferir y vender sus acciones. Si las acciones han estado en su posesión por largo plazo (más de un año), el donante no está obligado a pagar el impuesto por las ganancias de capital y se le otorga una deducción a los impuestos por el valor completo de las acciones. Los donantes pueden también elegir vender sus acciones y hacer un reclamo de pérdida de capital, lo cual puede beneficiar sus circunstancias tributarias.
