Horsham BlueprintBusiness Neighbourhood forum update March 2016

Neighbourhood Planning—what goes where in our neighbourhood?

As a business in Horsham Town, you have an opportunity to have your say about how we plan the town to meet the needs of your business, your customers, and your staff.

Imagine Horsham8th-10th April 2016 Swan Walk

We need you to let us know your views and ideas and to

work with us to make our neigh-bourhood plan a reality.

First up, email us to let us know who is the main contact for your organisation.

This will enable us to keep you in-formed about the plan’s progress. Secondly, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We will follow you back, promoting your business if you wish, letting the local com-munity know that your business is taking part. We will be posting links

from Facebook and Twitter to sur-veys on SurveyMonkey where we need your views. There will also be links to Stickyworld which has pho-tos from locations around the town for comments. Let us know if you wish to see a place included.

Thirdly, we need your support. Grants, discounts, prizes would be welcome, but more importantly we need your expertise! We need everything from urban planning to market research, architecture to project management. We would love to have your support for some of the community projects too.

HORSHAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

A small working group is working to relaunch the

Horsham Chamber which had a successful record as the voice of Horsham Businesses from all sectors. We are updating the database and would also like to hear from other business wish-ing to participate and be kept informed of activities.

The future is digital and we want to see Horsham grow its digital economy. Businesses, schools and charities all have a role to play.

A new forum, Horsham.Digital is being formed to bring organisa-tions together and promote Hor-sham as a tech centre. All we ask is that you help share your skills by taking part in training the employ-ees of the future.

Digital HubWe have various opportunities for you and your employees to work with people of all ages helping them to learn digital skills such as coding. Many of the projects are delivered by the exciting new char-ity Hack Horsham, in association with schools across the town.

Follow Hack Horsham on Face-book and Twitter to find out about the events for this year.

Horsham FestivalIf you are keen to support the Arts, there is a new Hor-sham Festival taking place 9th to 17th July. Watch the media for more information. Meanwhile if you are able to sponsor or help in anyway, you can get in touch @horshamfestival or via their Facebook page.

The organisers have said, “What the town could really do with isa multi-use facility with an audi-ence capacity of two to three thou-sand. This could be used to attract audiences into the town when we stage a nationally known event. It

could also provide a sheltered facil-ity if outdoor events are weather-affected. Most importantly it could provide space for a multiplicity of small groups to use for a number of purposes.” A great vision for our plan!

Assets ofCommunity ValueSome buildings matter great-ly to the life of a community. We have a Right to nominate these as Assets of Commu-nity Value and then to bid for them when they come up for sale. If you know of a building that needs this protection let us know. Once nominated, we may need your professional help with the process of pur-chasing or running the facility, or of acting as trustees. As an example, some communities have taken over pubs or post offices—and even a pier!

Horsham needs morecommunity space andwe will address this inour Plan.

TeenTech in Horsham

Plans are progressing rapidly for this event aimed at changing perceptions of young teenag-ers about careers in science, technology and en-gineering. Simon Pringle of Red River Software is at the helm as Chair of the Steering Group.

The TeenTech day brings together 300 year 8/9 students from 30 local schools with 150 scien-tist, engineers and technologists for a day of in-teractive activities. If your business would like to take part, whether by sponsorship or by setting and leading a technical challenge on the day, we’d love to hear from you! The event is scheduled for this Autumn at Tanbridge House School.

Who does what in Horsham Town?

Horsham Blueprint Neighbourhood Forum is responsible for Neigh-bourhood Planning for Horsham Town.

This area does not have a Parish or Town Council. The Forum was formed at the instigation of the three Neighbourhood Councils; Forest, Denne and Trafalgar.

It is supported by other community groups andorganisations including Horsham Town CommunityPartnership, Horsham Society and Horsham in Bloom,as well as by District and County Councillors. The Forum and its area was designated by Horsham District Council in June 2015.

Some of the matters raised with the Forum are outside our remit, in which case we pass them on to the relevant organisation or Councillor as appropriate.

The planning policies that we develop will sit alongside proj-ects which are identified by residents and businesses. These will be delivered by community groups using the S106 or CIL monies that arise as a result of the Plan.

Business Park Transportand Accessibility

We all know that parking is a problem! If you work on one of the business parks, how do you get to the town centre at lunch time and will your space be there when you get back?

Where do your customers park and what about deliv-eries? Do we need to look at the design of these areas to see if there is scope to improve park-ing or to en-courage more people to cycle to work?

As more and more people cycle around the town, do we have enough bike racks, cycle paths and workplace showers? Another option is to provide more circular bus routes. If there is enough demand, we can talk to the bus companies. Alternatively, Horsham District Community Transport could run a community bus or maybe one of the taxi firms could provide a lunchtime service. If these matters affect your business, now is your chance to let us know and ensure our Plan helps your business.
