New and improved ID badges coming soon

Over the next few months, campus Security will be providing UK HealthCare employees with new and improved badges. As an interim step in this process, SwissLog pneumatic tube users who have an older badge will be receiving an updated badge in advance of the final badge. Supervisors who have staff members with affected badges will be contacted via email. Security will then be delivering replacement badges to these individuals and exchanging it for their current badges. The final steps in updating systems for the new badges is underway and details regarding the new badges for UK HealthCare staff will be available in the next few weeks.

Performing Punches 1. Use your badge or type your badge ID into the terminal. Text on the screen instructs you to

place a specific finger on the sensor

2. Gently run the finger along the ridge (1) near the bottom of the sensor area (2) until the first

joint is locked on the ridge

3. Drop the finger on the sensor and gently press

4. If the terminal verifies your finger scan image, the message “Punch Accepted” appears on the

screen and you have completed the punch

5. If the terminal does not verify your finger scan image, the terminal beeps and the message

“Verification Failed” appears on the screen in which case you should do the following:

a. Remove your finger from the sensor and press the Retry soft key on the right

b. Place the same finger on the sensor, applying slight pressure and watch the screen for veri-

fication (Do not slide, poke, or rotate your finger on the sensor, your finger should lay flat)

ICD-10 is coming and our HIBU coders are attending mandatory training sessions every week. These started back in December and they will continue until the end of June. Here’s a light-hearted look at I-10… While at the HIBU Open House, Janice and Annete gave Pete some pretzels and he choked on them. Missie and Kim saw this happening and performed the Heimlich maneuver and bruised Pete’s ribs. The pretzel flew out and hit Taryn in the right eye and scratched her cornea. Below are the ICD-10 codes that would be used to demonstrate this occurrence: T17.320A Food in larynx causing asphyxiation, initial encounter S20.219A Contusion of unspecified front wall of thorax, initial encounter S05.01.XA Injury of conjunctiva and corneal abrasion without foreign body, right

eye, initial encounter Y92.238 Other place in Hospital as the place of occurrence of the external cause
