suggestions, some thoughts, some challenges to help us stay

focused on our goal of hospitality.

Bishop Morneau: Embracing Hospitality.

Tenth Step: Hospitality Endangered - Part 1

Bishop Morneau refers to Pope Francis words. Pope Fran-cis describes the dangers that foster the tragic situation in which there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor, no place for those who profess a different faith, no place for those who have a different sexual orientation, no room for the immigrant , no room for anyone or anything that is different, no room for anyone or any group that is pushed to the margins. Bishop Morneau says, "He (Pope Francis) is speaking here of lost hospitality. And the dan-gers that cause this loss are many: consumerism, desola-tion, anguish, frivolous pleasure, blunted conscience, deaf-ness to God's voice, anger, listlessness. In direct and un-compromising language, the Holy Father is calling the Church and the world to be concerned with the common good, the plight of the poor. Yes, implicit in this call is hospitality.”

Immke Room in Hendricks Hall

6:30 – 8:30 PM

RSVP by August 30, 2016

This might be the most unusual dinner invitation I have ever sent, but bear with me, I think we are in for a remarkable experience. I would be honored if you would take the time to join me and Msgr. Hendricks, Dr. Tim Coss and attorney, Michael Zaino for dinner and to engage in this conversation. They will offer a few words that will, hopefully prompt us into some important conversations. We will explore the Catholic view of dying and death; options for the end of life care, and advanced directives according to Ohio.

Talking about death and dying can be difficult and uncom-fortable, yet perhaps no conversations are more profound or necessary for all of us. End-of-life decisions are among the most challenging we will ever face.

This is not meant to be a morbid conversation, but instead a very human one where we consider what we want, both in life and during its end and looking at in the context of our faith and values. –Sister Teresa Tuite, OP

Guidelines for 2017 Mass Intentions

Due to the high volume of Mass Intention requests here at St. Brigid of Kildare, the following policy has been implemented:

1. There is a limit of seven (7) Mass Intention requests per family per year.

2. The 2017 calendar will open on Monday, August 15. 3. Drop off initial Mass requests at the church office begin-ning August 15 at 8:30 am. Requests must be made in writing and submitted as follows: • Include your name and daytime phone number. • List intention and indicate if the person(s) is living or deceased.

• If you request a Sunday Mass, indicate time preferred. • Indicate if you need a Mass card(s). • Include Mass stipend, $10 per Mass, cash or check only. Make checks out to St. Brigid of Kildare. Write ‘Masses’ in the memo line of your check.

4. Mass requests will be processed in the order in which they are received.

Lent Madness

Is St. Brigid of Kildare the only par-

ish doing this? No. Actually we are about eight years behind. Thousands of people have participated in this fun way to learn about the saints and other good people. They are an online community of people who are passionate about tak-ing their faith but not themselves too seriously. Articles and spots about Lent Madness have appeared in the Wash-

ington Post, NPR, Huffington Post, FOXNews, NBC, USAToday, and even Sports Illustrated.

Where can I find more information about Lent Mad-

ness? You can read more about Lent Madness by go-ing directly to the website: www.Lentmadness.org.

Can I preregister for the Parish Pool? At Ministry Weekend preregistration forms and preordering forms will be available at the Adult Faith Formation Table. More questions & answers next week. – Sr. Teresa Tuite, OP

prayers for those who have died.

Jessica Hirth died on July 15, 2016 after a 2 ½ year battle with can-cer but after nearly eighteen years of lov-ing life. Jessica’s parents, Leslie and Dave have been longtime members of St. Brigid of Kildare Parish along with their children: Stephanie, Jessica and Matthew.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on July 19, 2016. “As for me, ... the time has come for me to depart. I have

fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the

finish; I have kept the faith; all there is to come for me now

is for the Lord to bring me safely to his heavenly king-

We rejoice believing that Jessica is home with God and at peace.

The Little Rock Scripture Series for Wom-en provides an environment to nurture friendships and bonds while we grow clos-er to our Lord Jesus Christ. The group fol-

lows the Little Rock Scripture Series with each course based on four main elements: daily personal study (the time you spend to read and reflect on Scripture), a small group meet-ing, a short, explanatory video, and conversational prayer.

The group will meet on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 pm, begin-ning August 23rd. The studies planned for the 2016-17 year are: Panorama of the Old Testament, Panorama of the New Testament, Gospel of Matthew, and Letters of Paul from Prison.
