Prince Philip

In the News

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, is in "good spirits" after

undergoing emergency surgery for a blocked coronary artery, a spokesman for the Buckingham

Palace said. Prince Philip, 90, was taken to Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire Friday December

23rd for "precautionary tests" after he complained of chest pains. We wish him well.

Report on December Nights 2011

The event was a great success and gave us excellent PR exposure for the coming year. (HPR will be billing for security, fencing etc. so final net profit numbers are not yet available).

Some things were purchased with the money raised that will be used for future lawn programs, ethnic fair days, and December nights. i.e.: the bar for the beer garden and the Tudor House façade for the food tent (all labour to build generously donated by Joel Roop), tent, banners, light fixtures, astro-turf, urn, aprons. The reuse of these items will minimize overhead cost for the future events.

The donations of baked goods brought about extremely good profit for the sales in the cottage. Thank you for all those who brought in baked items.

Thank you also to the wonderful group of volunteers, in all 3 areas, who worked pleasantly together and made everything work out well while having fun in the process! (Volunteers who escaped the camera were Terry, Delphine, and Mel).

Diane’s planning, organizing and overseeing was amazing and was the biggest factor in the success of all three components of the event. (Cottage, food, and beer sales).

Finally, thank you to our newest member, Keith Willis, (BBC Pasty heaven) whose shepherd’s pies were very tasty and sold very well.

Profits will be much higher next year because equipment is now on hand. Great days ahead!

Bletchley Park is an estate located in the town of Bletchley, Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, England, which currently houses the National Museum of Computing. During World War II, Bletchley Park was the site of the United Kingdom's main decryption establishment, the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS), where ciphers and codes of several Axis countries were decrypted, most importantly the ciphers generated by the German Enigma and Lorenz machines. It also housed Station X, a secret radio intercept station.

The high-level intelligence produced at Bletchley Park, codenamed Ultra, provided crucial assistance to the Allied war effort. Sir Harry Hinsley, a Bletchley veteran and the official historian of British Intelligence in World War II, said that Ultra shortened the war by two to four years and that the outcome of the war would have been uncertain without it.

Google comes to aid of Bletchley Park with £550,000 donation By Phil Muncaster

Google has come to the aid of Bletchley Park with a £550,000 donation to help the famous World War Two code breaking site kick-start a £15m development project.

The funds, which come from the Google.org philanthropic arm, will move the Bletchley Park Trust a step closer to its goal of unlocking a £4.5m Heritage Lottery Fund grant as it tries to develop the site into a heritage and education centre.

The Trust needs to come up with £2.4m in matching funding to unlock the grant, which will be spent on conserving buildings of "highly significant heritage value", improving the educational facilities and enhancing the site for visitors.

Specifically, work will take place on restoring huts 1, 3 and 6 which housed the scientists who worked on cracking the codes created by the Nazi Enigma and Lorenz cipher machines, as well as creating a visitor centre and exhibition in the currently derelict Block C.

Simon Greenish, chief executive of the Bletchley Park Trust, thanked Google for the donation.

"We have received other generous contributions towards the project, but this is the largest single element of the partnership funding and absolutely vital in potentially getting the project underway much sooner than might otherwise have been possible," he said.

"It would be wonderful if other donors follow Google's example to help preserve our computing heritage. We could then proceed as soon as possible with restoration of the profoundly historically significant code-breaking huts."

The £4.5m Lottery fund was granted in October.
