High Density Housing: site 1 4- 3 bedroom units / 8- 2 bedroom units / 10 studios / 4 commercial office spaces / 37 parking lots The aim for this project was to produce a structure worthy accommodating a variety of patrons in three main groups as well as a commercial centre to serve the area. The initial vision was to create a favela style terraced structure to give the area a village style theme. Although the terrace vision was dropped later on the village theme was kept and included in this package was the ability to give everyone a personal space. By making walkways 1 metre lower than the entrance to the units this created a threshold in which entranceways became small balconies. In addition, windows that open on to hallways are elevated even more to ensure maximum privacy. With a lot of space being taken from the ground floor, most of it is reclaimed on the roof of the units to be used as a recreation area by all residents. The site originally had a 10 foot depression in it to maximize space even further parking is placed in this depression. The commercial area is placed on the corner of Pawsley and Altamont so that the traffic along this road can easily use it.
