The counterbalance is a modular torsion spring system designed to take the effort out of liſting and supporng lids, covers, countertops and electro-mechanical equipment. As shown above, the counterbalance consists of three basic elements: the counterbalance assembly, which incorporates torsion rods and cam follower arms, the anchor mounts to retain the assembly and the cam assemblies. Although the counterbalance provides support and control for all different kinds of hinged loads, it does not funcon as the hinge. The central axis of the counterbalance is usually displaced from the main pivot axis of the lid to provide condions for relave moon that make the cam effecve. Typical placement of the counterbalance is to mount the cams to the lid, and the counterbalance assembly into the base unit. Torsion rods untwist at specific and connually varying speeds as the lid opens or closes. The force delivered to the cams correctly neutralizes the effect of gravity in every posion. Upward or downward bias can also be built into any poron of the cam profile allowing features such as pop open, snap shut, detent at full open, or detent at an intermediate posion. In most counterbalances, forces are transmied symmetrically to the lid structure by using a pair of cams and a pair of follower arms. However, some counterbalances are built using a single arm/single cam construcon with the cam follower arm located anywhere along the tube. Ongoing research and technical innovaon has expanded the capabilies of the counterbalance tremendously over the last 20 years. The counterbalance can now accommodate applicaon weights varying from 1 - 1,000 pounds. Safe. Silent. Reliable. How does a counterbalance work?

The counterbalance is a modular torsion spring system designed to take the effort out of lifting and supporting lids, covers, countertops and electro-mechanical equipment. As shown above, the counterbalance consists of three basic elements: the counterbalance assembly, which incorporates torsion rods and cam follower arms, the anchor mounts to retain the assembly and the cam assemblies. Although the counterbalance provides support and control for all different kinds of hinged loads, it does not function as the hinge. The central axis of the counterbalance is usually displaced from the main pivot axis of the lid to provide conditions for relative motion that make the cam effective. Typical placement of the counterbalance is to mount the cams to the lid, and the counterbalance assembly into the base unit. Torsion rods untwist at specific and continually varying speeds as the lid opens or closes. The force delivered to the cams correctly neutralizes the effect of gravity in every position. Upward or downward bias can also be built into any portion of the cam profile allowing features such as pop open, snap shut, detent at full open, or detent at an intermediate position. In most counterbalances, forces are transmitted symmetrically to the lid structure by using a pair of cams and a pair of follower arms. However, some counterbalances are built using a single arm/single cam construction with the cam follower arm located anywhere along the tube. Ongoing research and technical innovation has expanded the capabilities of the counterbalance tremendously over the last 20 years. The counterbalance can now accommodate application weights varying from 1 - 1,000 pounds.

The Lift-A-SYST II and Counter-A-SYST devices accommodate lifting and balancing of flip-up counters. Flip-up counters are commonly used in

restaurants, hotels, bars & nightclubs, casinos, reception areas, cafeterias and car dealerships. In the closed position, the door remains flush with the

surrounding countertop. In the open position, the door sits straight up from the floor at a 90 degree angle, (shown in above drawings). Flip-up counters

are usually designed to limit access to a specific area or to provide additional counter space in a small area—like bartenders working behind a bar.

Lift-A-SYST II and Counter-A-SYST are easy to acquire with simple online credit card purchases available.
