HOW DOES MY MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT

PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

GENDER- FEMALE

• The female gender is often under represented within the Thriller genre.

• However within our piece, ‘Forbidden’, the female character (the Ghost) is represented with a lot more dominance and power.

• Although she is a ghost, the female character is representative of other strong independent females.

• Anti-stereotypically the female ghost has the dominance over a male character.

GENDER- MALE

• Typically the main male character is the dominant heroic character in the thriller genre.

• Not conforming to typical thriller conventions the male character in our piece, plays the ‘damsel in distress’ role.

• The male gender is represented in an anti-stereotypical way in that he is afraid of what is seems ‘nothing’.

The male character, estate agent, showing signs of fear.

AGE

• The age range for our male character (the estate agent) is young to middle aged.

• 20-35 years.

• This is typically the age range for most estate agents.

• This therefore represents both this age range for males, and also the estate agents social group.

AGE

• For our female character (the ghost), we specified the age of a 10 year old.

• Having a young child as a ghost who died at a young age is very stereotypical and represents the young supernatural in a form of afterlife.

• The young girl is also represented in a typical view of being mischievous and menacing however in a haunting way to the estate agent.

ESTATE AGENT

• Estate agents are represented as a young naïve social group.

• They are also represented as vulnerable, often on their own and never in control of the situation.

• The estate agent also represents the young adult age range in that most estate agents are of this age group.

• Estate agents are also represented in the stereotypical slick and superficial way. We portray this stereotype positively with Ollie (the estate agent) having an expensive watch and slicked back hair.
