fluid. Changing these fluids will
help prevent premature failure
of the components involved.
Having your vehicle inspected at
every oil change is important!
There are many wearable com-
ponents besides fluids. Having a
belt brake, a wheel bearing lock
up, a coolant hose blow or your
brakes fail due to a rusty brake
line, are just a few reasons why
you may find yourself stuck on
the side of the road. If you are a
do-it-yourselfer, it still is a good
idea to make an appointment to
have your vehicle inspected on a
hoist, by a professional twice a
year. Once before the cold
season and once before the hot
season. Extreme weather con-
ditions is hard on batteries,
hoses, seals, radiators and many
other components! Give yourself
the piece of mind that your vehicle
is ready for what Mother Nature
wants to give us this winter! Make
an appointment at Graham’s
Auto and Truck Clinic and let
the professionals give you that
piece of mind!
The health of your vehicle is
very similar to your own physi-
cal health. Our body can tell us
many things including when
something is not right such as;
pain, nausea, aches, discomfort
and the list goes on. Vehicles
are also capable of telling us
when something is not right.
The check engine light, oil light,
low pressure light, low coolant
light, noises and the list goes on
also. Failure to pay attention to
our body or our vehicle can
lead to expensive and poten-
tially detrimental problems.
It is recommended to have an
annual physical to help prevent
possible life
threatening ill-
nesses or other
complications.
Vehicles require
the same type of
care. Graham’s
Auto and Truck
Clinic takes great
care in inspecting
your vehicle and
then advises you
on the correct
course of action. A thorough
and complete inspection can
reveal many things, including
giving you the piece of mind that
your vehicle is SAFE AND RE-
LIABLE! Roadside breakdowns
are never convenient and usu-
ally are expensive. The majority
of automobile owners are aware
that vehicle’s need oil changing
on a specific mileage interval,
however there are many other
fluids that have a life expectancy
and should be changed accord-
ing to the manufacturer’s rec-
ommendations. Graham’s Auto
& Truck Clinic has all the neces-
sary equipment to flush your
radiator, transmission fluid,

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD TIRES
STATE-0F-THE-ART TIRE MOUNTER AND BALANCER
This statement may seem surprising, however after the purchase of your vehicle, the single most important decision you make affecting
your vehicle’s performance and your driving satisfaction is the tires you buy. Tires are critical for traction, noise-dampening and handling
performance. If your tires do not grip the road it does not matter how powerful your vehicle is! Tires play a key role in how your vehi-
cle handles during braking, acceleration and cornering situations. Tires can also transmit or dampen road noise and may even cause an
annoying vibration.
Tires are also an important safety feature of your automobile. A recent study issued by the Na-
tional Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed a strong link between car accidents and vehi-
cle tire problems. Data from accidents that had occurred between 2005 and 2007 involving 5,470
vehicles, found that improperly inflated tires and low tread depth led to an increase in car acci-
dents across the country.
Under-inflated tires are three times more likely to be a factor in motor vehicle accidents than a
properly inflated tire. Tires that are under-inflated can lead to poor handling, which can cause a
driver to lose control. Tire blowouts also increase when tires are not inflated properly. Tire tread is also very important! When tires have less tread, their grip on the road, especially
wet roads is greatly reduced, which could cause loss of control of the vehicle. Rollover dangers also increase with poor tires, especially with SUVS. According to the NHTSA
study, tire problems that led to rollover accidents often involved SUVS and 45% of those accidents
had tire problems.
Tires are designed to be replaced when they wear out.. How do you know when to replace your tires? Generally the “penny rule”
works if you are unsure on the tread depth. Simply take a penny, place it upside down in the tire tread and if you can see the top of
Lincoln’s head above the tire tread, you need new tires. Tires also have wear bars, which go across the tread and when the tread is even
with the wear bar, it is time to replace the tires.
Graham’s Auto & Truck Clinic can help you make the correct decision on tire replacement, as
most vehicles today have 40-80 suitable tire models. The reason there are so many choices, is that
the tire manufacture designs different models for different characteristics, driving preferences,
performance, tread life and price. All tires are not the same, that is why there are so many
choices. If it is time for replacing your tires, prioritize the tire characteristics to your preference
like noise, handling, wet traction, snow traction, driving style and price. Keep in mind sometimes a
higher priced tire may mean it lasts longer, giving you a lower cost per mile over the life of the
tire. Always ask the life expectancy of the tire of your choice.
Graham’s Auto and Truck Clinic can inspect your tires and inform you if it is time to replace your
tires. Keep in mind, safety is a key component on how soon tires need to be replaced. Rotating
your tires every 6000 miles along with the correct alignment on your vehicle, will prolong the life
of your tires. Graham’s Auto and Truck Clinic can take care of all your tire needs, from guidance
of purchasing, mounting and balancing, tire rotations and vehicle alignments!
Graham’s Auto and Truck Clinic also recommends that if your vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure warning light and it illuminates, do
not ignore it! Check the appearance of your tires, if a tire appears low, add air immediately to prevent tire damage.
“Penny test” reveals not enough tread as
Lincoln’s head is entirely visible.
Tire pressure warning light indicates either the tires may be at a different pressures than recommended or a tire has become
punctured and is losing air

tronic ignition systems and lubri-
cants with chemical additives that
maintain the flow rate in all tem-
peratures. With these changes, it is
not necessary to warm your vehicle
up in cold temperatures. It is actu-
ally a bad idea to let your vehicle
idle in the cold temperature for the
following reasons:
When the engine is cold, the com-
puter tells the fuel injectors to stay
open longer, allowing more fuel into
the engine to help it run cold. As
the engine warms up, the injectors
let in less fuel. Letting your car sit
and idle is the slowest way to bring
it up to operating temperature,
therefore more fuel is entering the
oil, decreasing the lubricant value.
This is one of the reasons it is im-
Perfect question for this time of year! I
get asked this question a lot when the
weather changes for the cold. There
was a day that it was important and
needed to warm up your vehicle for
many reasons. Vehicles were equipped
with carburetors, non self adjusting
ignition system and poor lubricants.
Today the majority of vehicles are
electronic fuel injected, have elec-
portant to change your oil regularly,
poor viscosity = poor flow rate.
Modern cars are equipped with a lot
of devices to help them run clean,
including a catalytic converter. A
cold engine emits a lot of unburned
hydrocarbons which can eventually
lead to a plugged converter. An ex-
pensive repair.
Idling your vehicle also wastes fuel
and emits pollution. If it is10 degrees
or above, start your car and let it run
30-60 seconds to get all the fluids
moving, then drive off gently. The
engine will warm up faster, your ex-
haust will get to temperature faster
and then the converter will work
properly, plus you will use less fuel! If
it is below zero, 3-5 minutes is
plenty!
