73% of hospitals allow doctorsto bring their own device…

Figures from the USA* show 73 percent of hospitals allow doctors and nurses to use their own mobile device in the hospital.

The same study showed that only 50 percent of hospitals had a BYOD (bring your own device) policy governing the use of mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, by medical staff while they were ‘on the job’.

While we should welcome the use of technology to improve patient care, the question is:

What is the risk to privacy and confidentiality of patient data?

For young doctors thecloud is invisible as a ‘threat’

Young clinicians have grown up with the internet, social media, the cloud and mobile devices. They are comfortable with accessing and sharing information and knowledge on their mobile devices.

The cloud is invisible as a ‘threat’ because it has always been there.

As the next generation of doctors and nurses begin their careers, and earn promotions through the health system, their comfort with mobile devices and the cloud will lead governments, hospitals and medical organisations to change the way they manage BYOD and data risks.

The medical industry needs to get its head in the clouds

Legal and ethical implications ofusing the cloud in healthcare

When it comes to managing, sharing, accessing and storing health data, there are many legal and ethical challenges to consider:

• Where is the data stored?• Is the data stored in compliance with data sovereignty rules?• Who can access the data?• Is the data encrypted and who has the key to decrypt and access this data?• Can the data be easily shared outside the hospital’s network?• Could a patient’s privacy be easily breached?

Is patient data safe and secure in the cloud?

Secure sharing of patient datain the era of the cloud and BYOD

When clinicians expect to be able to use their own mobile devices in the workplace, there needs to a secure way to sync and share patient data. That’s where CloudFileSync offers a range of features to the healthcare industry:

Private cloud a secure solution that delivers cloud functionality specifically designed and deployed for a single organisationOnsite storage hosting your data on an on-premise server, that is still accessible via mobile devices through your private cloudEncryption protecting your data with a secret key or passwordActivity logging/ monitoring and permissions determining who can access specific files and creating a log of when they do soBYOD compatible there are significant productivity gains in your staff having access files on the go, as long as they are doing so in a way that protects your data
