PROCESS
• Objectives:
• To teach students to be able to identify the different types of tea
• To teach students to be able to brew a cup of tea on the stove or in the microwave
• Instructional Design
• A-ADDIE Model
• Assess, Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate (Chow, 2017)
2
ASSESS AND ANALYZE
• Assess:
• Instructional Design should be relevant in
face-to-face instruction as well as online
• Assume from personal observations that
those involved in instruction are familiar
with tea, but perhaps not with brewing
techniques
• Analyze:
• Establish learning objectives
• Choose instructional design models: A-
ADDIE and Robert Gagne’s 9 Steps
• Create plan for putting the lesson together
3
DESIGN
• 2 hour session (or broken down into 3 smaller sessions)
• Supplies Needed:
• tea cups, spoons, water, teapot, kettle, loose and bagged tea (black, green, and white), sugar, Splenda, milk, and lemon
• access to stove and microwave
• Instructional Area Set Up:
• counter will have two-three stools, supplies, stovetop and microwave
• Students divided into pairs or groups of three
• Lesson Activities and Assessment Creation:
• PowerPoint
• Quick Quiz (Formative Assessment)
• Notecards or PowerPoint Instructions (Summative Assessment)
(Antique Paragon, n.d.)
4
IMPLEMENT • Gagne’s Nine Steps
• 1. Gaining attention
• 2. Informing learners of the objective
• 3. Stimulating recall of prior learning
• 4. Presenting the stimulus
• 5. Providing learning guidance
• 6. Eliciting performance
• 7. Providing feedback
• 8. Assessing performance
• 9. Enhancing retention and transfer
(Culatta, “Conditions of Learning,” 2015).
5
OBJECTIVES
7
• I can name at least three of the five
different types of tea.
• I can brew a “perfect” cup of tea.
(Quotes about Love and Tea, n.d)
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF TEA?
Do you prefer your tea hot or cold?
Do you think there are different ways
to brew tea? What are they?

Dharma, discovers after meditation
• Origins
• Probably the regions of China, Tibet and India
• Began being imported to Europe in the 17th
century (although present before)
