Picking the right style is usually the biggest hurdle most people face when buying their first kigurumi. It’s possible to spend days — even weeks — on the issue without coming to a decision, which can be an incredibly frustrating and de-motivating experience. I know, because I’ve struggled with the process myself. I wrote this Guide to help take the confusion and stress out of the selection and research process, and to help increase the chances of picking a comfortable, and reliable kigurumi that you can use for multiple times.

As with most costume type clothing, kigurumi is not something just for your own. From the moment of researching to finally wearing one, this can be a long patient process. Therefore, most people would ask their family and friends for their opinion and tell them about this experience. It is also something that you will wear to share to friends and take beautiful photos of yourself in this kigu!

The origins of “Kigurumi” comes from a the streets of Japan. These cute pyjamas have been existence for over 20 years! However, it has really been the last 5 years have we seen this growing trend been brought to the masses in North America, Europe and Australia. However, as more and more people discover them at events, and social media sharing, there are now people in UAE, New Zealand, Brazil and all over the world. We believe that it is through sharing of this amazing and cute products that this has truly become a popular trend.

The word kigurumi is the combination of two Japanese words: kiru (“to wear”) and nuigurumi

(“stuffed toy”). Back in the days, it was referred specifically to the performers wearing the costume, but the as mentioned earlier the word has now grown to include the costumes themselves. In Japan, kigurumi costumes are worn as a way to break the conventions of traditional dress… or just as comfy clothing!

The kigurumis made by Kigu Kawaii is one of the most respected clothing fabric and recognized leader in the industry. It is built to last and each one has been conducted for sample testing.

Kigurumi is a great companion to most people, as such we want them to maintain and keep them in good condition. Here are a few simple things you can do to keep them in great condition.

1. First, turn your kigurumi inside out. This keeps the fabric from getting soaked and heavy

2. Gently put the piece of article in the washing machine and set to Machine Wash cold

3. Keep animals away from it!We all love pets but they can also do harm to your beloved kigurumi. If you do have a pet, do keep them away from it as for example cats may want to scratch and damage the fabric. 

4. Use any type of detergent you’d like!This is common sense and everyone should do it anyway. Some people don't, or they forget.

5. You can use the “Normal” speed in your washing machine. If you are worried, turn it to Gentle Wash. After washing, you can hang it out to dry, be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight!

There are two types of kigurumis made from two different fabrics. One is made of Polar Fleece which is very warm and comfortable for Fall/Winter season, and the other is made of Cotton/Polyester which is ideal for Spring and Summer Season

So one of our frequently asked questions are "...Why does there need to be 'a point' to kigurumi? What's the point of wearing leggings under a tunic, or of having chunky blond highlights, or even of buying exclusively from one brand or store? In fact- what's the point of those weird house slippers that look like huge animal paws?

Kigurumi are comfortable. They are cute. People like them. People also like low-quality hoodies from all different kinds of trendy stores. Why? Just because they do.

It depends how long you wear your kigurumi for. People often get one for the winter because they like to wear it for Halloween and Christmas. However, most of the year is also spring and summer time, so you’d decided to get a summer one too! You can try out different fabrics, if you want to buy a two or more kigurumis.
