There's no denying that social media is the next big thing for marketing. After all, it's one of the most cost effective ways to market your business. It's easy, accessible and provides an immediate platform for growing your brand as well as customer engagement. But not everyone does it well, the reason being that and there are some things we should keep in mind when engaging in social media marketing.

1. CONTENT IS (STILL) KING Most people are misled in thinking that the use of immediate platforms such as Facebook and Twitter eclipses the importance of quality content. In fact more than ever, quick updates require more content precision and less decoration. Once you have a piece of great content, leverage your social media and amplify it.

2. BE HONEST There is nothing worse than 'robot updates'. Most brands use social media only for promotional purposes, giving no value to their clients and customers. This is a failed strategy, given that customers aim at personal relationships. Strive to be more personal and warm in your online engagement. Promote instead of Marketing.

3. DIVERSIFY There is a plethora of social platforms other than Facebook and Twitter. Capitalize on them but also, focus on what works best for your content. At the same time, engage in cross-platform "re-marketing" to reach out to those who have not yet converted to target platforms. Cross-channel remarketing will boost the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns.
