WARNING : The following information applies to preparing an empty hard dis% for theinstallation of Windows 98. /f you use the following steps on a hard dis% that is not empty! all of the data that is on that hard dis% is deleted.

'efore you install Windows 98 on an empty hard dis%! you must first create a primary partitionand then format a file system on that partition. When you run Windows 98 2etup from within Microsoft Windows 9,! 2etup automaticallyinstalls Windows 98 to the same folder in which Windows 9, is installed. When you run Windows98 2etup from Windows ;.) or M25412! you are prompted for the folder in which to installWindows 98.

Windows 98 2etup then runs 2can eg to test the integrity of the registry. 2can eg also ma%es abac%up copy of the registry at this point.

Windows 98 2etup then determines what components to install based on the following criteria:
