Creating an efficient village! How do you do that? I hear you say, Well heres how!
(This is for the beginners and advanced alike.)
The first step to having an efficient village is siting your granary andstockpile.
I generally put my stockpile on the left of my keep in between the wood and stone. Like
this:
I generally lean towards having my stockpile nearer to my stone. But experiment and see
how you feel. By having it closer to a certain material (E.g. Wood, Stone, and Iron) youll get
a boost to that material in production. But note that it makes everything else suffer as it
slows the production speed of everything else. (So its best to try and be balanced where you
put it.)
This is the Stockpile.

The same goes for the granary. Which I generally have like this:
I generally only have apple production to sustain me. But as long as you remember the fact,
that, the closer food production buildings are to the granary. The faster the production of
food will be. Although you cant see from this image very well, I have my better food
producing buildings closer to my granary. (For me Apples is my best food product. So over
Cheese I put it closer to the granary).
The next step which I normally do is having my inn and hops farms setup.
(This will help your happiness levels, depending on the rations you use. E.g.1X,2X,3Xor 4X)
This is the granary
here.

As you can see all my Hops Farms/Breweries are in a square around the Inn. This is because
they are most efficient the closer to the inn that they are(Surprise, Surprise!).
The next step for me is Wood and Stone buildings.
To get maximum effect you will want your Wood and Stone buildings as close to the
stockpile as possible. But at the same time want it to be neat so that you can fit as many of
those buildings as you can. As theres only limited space for them!
Food buildings themselves.
This is the Inn.
This is a Hop Farm/Brewery.
Note the neatness of my
Quarries in this picture; this is
how to get maximum efficiency!
See how Ive followed the curvature
of the allowed wood building area.
This is how to get maximum
efficiency with these buildings. They
can be a pain so be through hen
lacin them!
Quality is bad on these two
ictures as Ive had to shrink

Always put your highest producing food buildings closest to the granary. That way you get
the most effect from them. But if you have more than 1 type of food, dont neglect them.
As the more of each food you produce the higher your happiness level in the village will
increase a drastic amount.
I have no screenshot of this as I stick to just 1 food type normally. But the more food types
you can produce the higher the happiness level.
Weapons making.
Personally one of my favourite things to build. The way to succeed best on this is keep itas neat as possible!
The best way to set up these is to have each side of the Stockpile dedicated to a set type of
weapon-maker like Ive done. However youll notice that in this picture I have lots of
weapon-makers so, organising them has become somewhat difficult. They have started off
organised then as space became less Ive stuck them where I can. Youll notice I only have 1
catapult maker. That is because you can only have 1 per village.

Theresmore advanced buildings than the ones Ive shown so far. Such as pitch platforms,
Churches, Decorations that give you honour multiplier, Entertainment buildings which give
you additional happiness and a few more other buildings. In this section I will explain how to
get the best benefit from them.
Banquet buildings
Banquet goods are used by many. And can be very useful, either for doing actual banquets
to get honour. Or to donate to the Parish to improve the Parish. However many banquet
buildings have only certain places you can use them. Salt Pan can only be used on Salt Flats
village type. Vineyard may only be used on Hillside village type. And Spice may only be used
on River 1 village type. And finally Silk built only on River 2 village type. The rest of the
Banquet buildings can be used on any village type. But only placed in certain places. The
Hunters Hut and Tailors Workshop can be placed anywhere, but like with all these buildings
the closer to the keep they are the faster their production speed. Carpenters Workshop
must be placed next to Wood otherwise it cannot be placed. And Metalwork Workshop is
similar but has to be placed on Iron.

Pitch platforms
Pitch platforms can only be placed in one section of the village screen (Highland only) and
only on two different village types (Marsh and Highland).
Chapels, Churches and Cathedrals
These buildings dont need any special placement area, but they do take up space so its best
to generally build these after your main buildings. As then you dont use valuable space you
may need for food production or so on.
The area in which you can use
pitch platforms in the Highlands.
As you can see in
this one the
owner of the
village has put
their Pitch
Platforms as
close to thestockpile thus to
increase his/her
production rate.
In a Marsh type village you can build Pitch Platforms in just about
any part of the map.
As you can see my church and
markets are at the top of the village
map out of the way so that I can
maximise my building space usage.

Decorations
Decorations are very useful, and I suggest that everyone gets some. They are essential for
getting honour as they increase the honour multiplier. But to get the most of out them
you need to place them as close to the keep as possible.
Entertainment Buildings
Entertainment buildings are a must have building. They affect the overall happiness in thevillage. Like Decorations the closer to the keep the more effect they have on the
happiness in the village. However, yourelimited to just one of each type of
Entertainment building in each village.
A type of decoration that can be
used.

Entertainment building.

The two types of village (High Honour or High Tax/Big Army Recruitment)
The type of village you go for depends on what you want. If you want High Honour go for a
small population of people say about 40-50. Enough just to have a supportable economy.
But if you want to get high tax per day or be able to recruit large amounts of people in a
go/throughout the day. Youre better off getting a supportable village of around 100+
people.
Rule of thumb for village building (Standardised)
My usual starting off buildings I make are usually; 5-6 Wood Cutters, 4 Quarries, 2 Peasant
Houses and 4 Apple Orchards.
After having placed the Granary and Stockpile, place 1 or 2 Apple Orchards (Or whatever
your best food maker is) around your granary so that they can start production immediately.
Then place a couple of Wood Cutters so that they also may be able to get on with makingWood so that you can make more buildings. By this time you should still have around 6000-
7000 Wood and about 8000 Stone. Now that you have a couple of Food Makers and a
couple of Wood Cutters. You should start building some Quarries so that you have Stone
building up in your stockpile. If at this point in the game you are able to build stone walls I
strongly suggest you build a circular ring around your Keep in your Castle just so you dont
get a minus happiness effect due to your village being unprotected. If you cant use stone
walls. Use Wooden Stockade; you should however upgrade this as soon as you can. Next
place a Hovel in your village next to your keep (So its at its most efficient)so that you have
more villagers gathering in your village (How ironic villagers in a village!). Then start adding
more Food Production buildings so that you always have enough food to support your
villagers. After getting another 2 or 3 Food Production buildings get some more Wood
Cutters and Quarries. That is the basic average bog standard village. After this point just
experiment with how you want your villages. Specialise in weapon-making, banqueting,
Food Production or try to do all. But I wouldnt get to ahead of yourself in one go!
