How to open a Japan Post Bank account

※Please read thoroughly and retain this document.

Go to a post office near Doshisha with following necessary items

◆Necessary items◆

□Residence card (Please complete your residence registration at a ward/city office in advance.)

□Student ID card or Admission certificate (If you have neither of them, let OIS know.)

□Passport

□Personal seal (required if they are commonly used in your country, or if you have

a Japanese nationality)

□Social Security Number (only for Americans)

□Application documents (If you don’t have, you can get them at a post office.)

STEP 1

Receive your “cash card”

Cash card will be sent to your address given on the application form.

◆How to receive the delivery◆

・Please put your name tag on your mailbox to avoid a misdelivery.

・You need to receive your cash card from Japan Post carrier in person.

If you are not present when the carrier arrives, he/she will leave a redelivery notice. Please follow

the instruction of “How to read the Redelivery Notice” and contact the post office.

STEP 4

The procedures completed!

Receive your bankbook on the spot.

(Depending on the situation, you might not be able to receive the bankbook on the spot.

In that case, the bankbook will be delivered at a later date.)

How to use your bank account （From JAPAN POST BANK）

※Please read thoroughly and retain this document.

■How to start using your bank account

・ Once you receive your bankbook, you can withdraw and deposit cash using a teller in a bank.

Your bank book and personal seal (if you have) needed.

・ Once you receive your cash card, you can withdraw and deposit cash at ATM machines.

■ATM withdrawal limit

・ ATM daily withdrawal limit is ¥500,000.

・ If you wish to increase the limit, please contact the post office.

■International money transfer

・ In order to do international money transfer, both sending and receiving, you need to register

your “My Number” (individual number).

・ Please bring the things listed below to the post office and register your My Number.

①Your “My Number Notification Card” or “Residence certificate with your My Number”

②Your bankbook or cash card

■When your bankbook or cash card is lost or stolen

Please contact the customer center (0120-794-889 open 365 days a year, 7 days a week) or the post

office.

■When you have gotten a phone number in Japan

Please bring your cash card or bankbook to the post office and register the phone number.

■Renewing your residence card, Changing your address

・ When you have renewed your residence card or changed your address, please bring your

renewed card to the post office and notify us of the changes immediately.

・ If you fail to notify us, your transactions may be temporarily restricted.

■When you move out of Japan

If you don’t need your JP bank account any more, please bring your bankbook to the post office and

complete the account cancellation procedure.

■Caution

It is crime to transfer or sell an account (bankbook or cash card). Please DO NOT attempt to do so

under any circumstances.

Procedures to receive overseas remittances with your bank account

■日本のマイナンバー制度について About “My Number” system in Japan

日本で住民登録をすると、その方の国籍を問わず、1 人 1 つ、12 桁のマイナンバーが付与されます。

マイナンバーは、主に「社会保障」「税金」「災害対策」の 3 つに関連する手続きを行うときに必要で、マイナン

バーが必要な手続きは法律で定められています。

日本の銀行口座で「外国からの送金の受け取り」と「外国への送金」を行うには、金融機関にマイナンバーを登

録する必要があります。

In Japan, when people complete resident registration at a ward office, an individual number as nicknamed “My Number”

is given to each person regardless of their nationality.

In order to do international money transfer with your Japan Post Bank account, it is necessary to register your

"My Number" at the post office.

■自分のマイナンバーを知る方法 How to check your “My Number”

自分のマイナンバーを知る方法は 2 つです。

① マイナンバーの「通知カード」が郵送されるのを待つ（下図参照）

→住民登録をしてから約 3 週間後に届きます。無料。

② 「マイナンバー記載の住民票写し」を発行して貰う

→住民登録をしたら区役所ですぐに発行できます。発行手数料は京都市の場合は 350 円です。

"My Number" is listed on the "My Number Notification Card" or "Resident Certificate with My Number".

① My Number Notification Card

→It will be delivered several weeks after you completed residence registration. It is free.

② Resident Certificate with My Number

→You need to apply at the ward office. It is charged, but you can check your My Number soon after

completing residence registration. The issue fee in Kyoto city is 350 yen.

■郵便局での手続き方法 Procedures at a post office

1. 窓口にて「自分の口座で、海外からの送金を受け取れるようにしたい」と申し出る。 At the post office

counter, offer "I would like to receive remittances from overseas with my account.”

2. 通帳もしくはキャッシュカードと、マイナンバー通知カードまたはマイナンバー記載の住民票を出す。

Submit either your bankbook or cash card, and either My Number Notification Card or Resident Certificate

with My Number.

海外からの送金を受けたいので、この口座にマイナンバーを登録してください。

（↑means “I would like to receive remittances from overseas with my bank account, so please register my

■「マイナンバー記載の住民票写し」入手方法 How to get “Resident Certificate with My Number“

1. 区役所の窓口にある「住民票の写し等 交付請求書」を記入する。Fill out “Request for Issuance of Copy of

Resident Certificate” at the ward office.

2. 受付番号票を発券する。Take a receipt number slip.

3. 順番が来ると受付番号が呼ばれるので「住民票の写し等 交付請求書」を提出する。When your number is

called, submit the sheet you filled out.

4. 指定の窓口へ行き、350 円を支払って住民票の写しを受け取る。Visit the designated counter, make a

payment, and receive the Certificate.
