How To Paint Rocks Explore: Read the story “Stones”, by Eyelike Nature. Talk about where children can find all kinds of stones in your area. Go out and be with the stones. Paint with water where they are or bring some home and paint with color there--especially if the weather is rainy! Create: Paint messages, pictures, colors on stones. Compare dry and wet stones. Use water and fingers and/or brushes. Use non-toxic tempera paint. ______________________________________________________________________________ Materials: Stones, water and containers for dipping into, non-toxic paint, fingers, brushes, and perhaps a smock. Reflect and Share: What stones do you see? Notice their location, size, shape, color, weight, texture, and scent. Are stones different when wet, how so? How do you feel amongst the stones? What do any of them inspire you to create? What is it about that stone that inspires you? Why: Self direction, motor planning, creativity, sense and knowledge of place, making observations, gathering information, problem solving, fine and large motor activty, eco-literacy. How To Paint Rocks   Explore: Read the story “Stones”, by Eyelike Nature. Talk about where children can find all kinds of stones in your area. Go out and be with the stones. Paint with water where they are or bring some home and paint with color there--especially if the weather is rainy!
