How to Speed up Windows 10 Startup Sequence

ARTICLE BY: SAFEBYTES SOFTWARE

There has been a lot of talk lately about Windows 10, and for a good reason. Not only did Microsoft manage to attract attention by offering it as a free upgrade, but, just like every other version of Windows, it has brought something new to the game. In fact, it has brought plenty, or at least more than enough to justify its release.

Today, we’re going to focus on some of the issues Windows 10 users have been experiencing. Although most of these are bound to be fixed in the near future, let’s focus on ways how we can correct them before Microsoft does:

Windows 10 startup sequence: One of the most common problems users have identified so far is the Windows 10 startup sequence,(which can last over one minute after the upgrade). Now, you can do the obvious and install everything from scratch, buy an SSD, more RAM, or third-party software to take care of the problem. Or, you can tackle the issue within Windows itself:

How to tackle issues with Windows 10

The first thing you can do is disable the “fast startup feature” , which is present on this version of the OS and may account for some of the start-up sluggishness.

To turn it off, go to Control Panel and click on “Power Options”. (You can also

access Power Options by looking them up in the Start Menu).   Once you are in Power Options, click “Choose what the power button does”.   In the following window, you should be able to locate the “Change settings that

are currently unavailable” option.   Find the “Shutdown settings” and uncheck “Turn on fast startup”, and apply

changes.

We suggest you immediately restart your machine to see the difference. You should be able to detect a significantly faster startup process, just as it was before the upgrade.

An alternate way of solving the Startup Issue would be by fiddling around with some of the settings in Task Manager. Task Manager used to be every Window user’s last resort, but in Windows 10, it came out much more user-friendly.

You can access it by:

Right-clicking the taskbar and selecting “Task Manager”.

Pressing Ctrl+Shift+Delete and then selecting “Task Manager”.

Or directly by holding down the Ctrl, Shift, and Esc keys.

Once the Task Manager window opens up, click “More details”, and you will be able to access the Startup tab.

The clever thing about this new Task Manager is that it ranks each application based on its “Startup impact”, which can be Low, Medium, High, or Not measured. This means you have yet to start the application for the first time so you can determine which app needs to be turned off during startup.

To prevent a particular program from running on startup, select it on the list and click “Disable”. If you are not at all familiar with an app, right-click on it and select “Search online”; which will give you more information about it.

Since most of today’s applications and operating systems are a work in

progress, we will constantly be seeing fixes to them. This doesn’t mean we should wait for it to happen; as you can see, there are simple steps that we can take to fix it ourselves.
